Hi everyone, for some reason while I am flying, after a given amount of time in the air, or on the ground, my sim will just flat out stop running!! No Error messages, no black screens, it just goes straight to the desktop. Its almost as if something is terminating the process. Could it be spyware or viruses? I have reinstalled FS9, no luck. I have also tried installing the newest drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT AGP 512mb graphics card, and have also tried to roll them back to older ones, but no luck there either. There is no specific time that it happens.

did you update to version 9.1? That update solves most crashes.

Does anyone know if this could be being caused by FSSound.dll? What does it do?

Usually, FSSound.dll will lead to error messages if something is wrong. The 9.1 update should help. If not,you might have a driver or hardware issue.

Ok guys, thanks for the help so far, here is an update. The update didnt work and I have tried rolling back my video drivers to every conceivable driver, as well as going to the latest driver, but nothing helps. I have a dell dimension 4600 with an Nvidia GeForce 7950GT AGP, Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz, and 1.5 gigs of ram. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have been simming for years and never seen this before. IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING. No errors of any kind, it just drops to the desktop. This couldnt be a confilct with Active Sky, could it?

Have you allowed a regular "Program Update/Install" or "Virus/Spyware check", etc, program to run at various intervals?

I find that if one of them starts up, it returns my Flight Sim back to the Task Bar, which I then have to click on, to get the Sim to return again... ...!

I disable ALL my automatic Updates, to prevent  the dreaded "Simulator Interruptus".... .... .....!

...just a thought... ...!

my thoughts aswell Paul,the only thing i could think of is that one of your programs in the task bar is running or trying to run while you are simming.Try disabling/closing what is in you taskbar and try opening your sim again see how it goes........

Hi to you all. This is my first post so I may seem a little naive but has anyone thought that these CTD`s may be linked to physical damage to  Disc 4. I have calculated that I have inserted the disc over 1000 times since I bought FS 2004 and there are signs of scratches and dents on the surface. My own crashes have started to occur over the past six months or so. I will be pleased to have your views. Regards from Reg.

CD No. 4 is only used to verify your copy of the Sim each time you start it up.......!

All the Flight Sim Data is held on your Hard Drive after initial Installation, and the game runs mostly from the Computer Memory (RAM), assuming you have sufficient of it!

If you are short of memory, the excess will occasionally spool from your Hard Drive.

Thanks Fozzer for a very informative reply. Although I have 2 GB of memory, it seems my virtual memory is rather low. I will increase this in stages to see whether the crashes can be eliminated this way. Best wishes to you all .Reg.

...mmmm....one point to consider is that if your frame rate is not locked to say 20fps or some rate that your set up can easily handle then the sim will be always hunting for the highest frame rate it can and will have to go to virtual memory more often to achieve this........commoner

My simrate is locked at 20. I think I will lower it a bit in stages. I am also listing individual aircraft that crash regularly and those that never crash to desktop. Incidently I have over 5 GB of aircraft in my sim. Is this too much,do you think? best wishes Reg.

Seems like almost everything has been covered. Try this.

Note the time on your system clock when FS9 crashes. Then look at the event viewer to see what was running and what problem may have occurred at that time.

To get there right click on my computer. Left click on manage. Open the application event viewer and double click on the event line that matches the time FS9 crashed. A window will pop up telling you what happened.
