DC-3

I seem to remember a file that removes the default DC-3 VC, so a 2D panel with internal views could be used. Anyone know where it might be found?

Thanks

A simple tweak of the MDL file with a hex editor will remove the DVC.  See my Reply #9 in this topic. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1164439122/9#9

Not sure if it works on the default aircraft.

Yeah someone e-mailed these instructions, it works... :)

Tutorial for Removing Virtual Cockpits
from FS2002\FS9 default & Gmax models.

Hi Flightsimmers, if you are like me and hooked on FS9, but hate virtual cockpits with a passion, then this tutorial is for you and will show you how to remove the VC from your aircraft and allow you to use your favourite 2D panel and interior views.

Removing the VC from the A/C model is actually quite simple to do, involving only a hex editor and one change to the aircraft .mdl file.

A good Hex Editor is "Hex Workshop version 5

I'm always curious as to why people hate VCs... not saying you're wrong, just curious: why?

Those are nice, but I'm very happy with the MAAM-Sim DC-3... the VC's not entirely clickable, but I don't have much trouble going to the 2D panel views to take care of cockpit chores. It has the old-school Sperry autopilot that requires proper trimming of the airplane at the correct altitude before engaging, but I like that.  ;D

...I'm one of those 2D instrument panel enthusiasts....

I find that they incorporate ALL the instrumentation, controls, etc, necessary during the flight, which are instantly, and easily, within one fixed view, available for study and adjustment via the Mouse, etc....;)...!

Most of the time during my General Aviation Piston Prop flights require constant observation of the instrument panel in front of me, with various adjustments to the flight controls to maintain optimum flight conditions....
...and the 2D Panel caters admirably for this function without constant scrolling around, and loosing sight of the important information in front of me, outside of my windscreen... :o...!!

Paul...G-BPLF..... 8-)...!

Note: In a "real aircraft", the details surrounding the Pilot in the cockpit can be seen with a quick glance of the eyes in all directions....
...but this is not possible in a Flight Simulator, so the fixed 2D view comes in handy... ;)...!

For VFR flight, I zoom about to about 55% with most VCs- helps me see trends well enough and click on many items without moving my POV much. If I need to look very closely at something, I just toggle to the 2D view, often with one or more windows (GPS, radio stack) open.
I just feel more "immersion" in the VC; the 2D view, even a good one, seems fake to me... especially trying to land!

Although there are exceptions- Derek Palmer's  2D-only Dove is one of my favorite planes.

The second panel is actualy a DC-2 panel, its from the uiver, the guy that made that one created a full blown new version for 2004/FSX, its payware though, but the money go's too support the real uiver.

THANKS for this tip - been meaning to get that Dove for some time & now I have it.  Isn't it GREAT !!
What a Christmas present  :D
As for VCs though, David Maltby's 1-11 takes some beating  8-)
