Killing the engine in the Cessna 172?

I was flying with my son yesterday evening (he's 3 and LOVES to "fly planes with daddy") and I was flying the default Cessna 172 and skimming the wheels in a lake making water splash up. Well I hit the land and kind of bounced. The sim didn't register a crash, but it killed the engine. I dropped flaps and managed to land successfully, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to restart the plane. I did the ctrl + e a few times, that didn't work, so I brought up the kneeboard and went through all the process of manually starting it, all to no avail. You could just hear the sound of the engine turning over, but the prop never moved. My question is, is it actually possible to completely kill the engine in a plane? That's sure how it seemed for me. I wound up just having to exit and make a new flight. Anyone have any ideas or info on this? That's the first time that's ever happened to me like that.
Thanks!

Sounds like a prop strike.

I agree, sounds like a prop strike, but I didn't know MSFS would do that.
In real life, a prop strike like that wouldn't necessarily cause the engine to stop running immediately, but it wouldn't take long.

This also happens if you slew just as you hit the ground then keep flying... For some reason pulling up makes you yaw alot more.

It certainly will. Try a gentle wheels-up landing or ditch in the sea. Once the prop hits you won't be able to restart the engine or lower the gear.

Yep, that is a prop strike and I have had it happen a few times. the only thing I have found that you can do is restart the flight and then you can start the engine. ;D
