Hi all

I have a question regarding the commercial use of flight simulator 2004.
I have been thing off building a very small flightsim simulator Business that I would like to get off the ground so to speak, but on reading the microsoft EULA its states that it is for personal, non commercial use only

So how do you go about obtaining permission to use it for the likes of a small business, and how do other flight simulator outfits get to use MS2004 for their visuals

Cheers

Rhys

You'd need to contact MS about a commercial licence ;)

Actually, first you need to contact a LAWYER to have him/her contact Microsoft about terms for a commercial license.

You are getting into some serious business stuff there.

best,

You mean all these Payware companies have signed a deal with MS in order to make money off of their addons? I'm a bit confused :-/ :-/

No, payware companies make a completely new product that is simply added into the simulator to make money. They don't use the sim itself to make money, and that's what hsv wants to do. ;)

So cheap payware company's that use default gauges would be in violation of the EULA?

Well it might just be a loophole, they aren't really selling the gauges, they are just selling a product that uses them.  Just like how the planes use the simulator engine, or scenery that uses default textures (mesh, landclass)

The payware companies don't include the default gauges. They are already in the sim so there's no need to. All the panel.cfg does is reference the gauge. Remember those are files in a folder not real physical gauges in your cockpit.  ;)

I actually once purchased a payware airplane for FS2002 that aliased a default panel. I got taken on that deal. Taught me to check out a payware site's support forum before purchasing. Were a lot of complaints about that on their forum. Point is however that that wasn't a violation of MS EULA because it only aliased the panel.
