scenery add on

Postby moonmlns » Thu Oct 04, 2007 7:28 pm

I went through the scenery add on clinic here. I downloaded scenery for Mt. Rainer, in Washington state. Now when I fly to the mountain fs2004 quits. This is what I did. After downloading, I put it in a folder on my desktop called adddon scenery. I opened the addon folder an right clicked on the Mt rainer folder did the extract. I made another folder, inside the addon folder. In that folder i dropped the texture, scenery and effects folders out of the unzipped Mt rainer folder. I then dropped that folder into the fs9 addon scenery folder. I started fs2004 and added it to the scenery library and made sure it had a check in the box. I restarted fs2004. I just noticed a few minutes ago that in the mt rainier folder in fs9's addon scenery folder, there is a DAT file called scenery that I didn't put in there. Any thoughts???
Here is the instructions that are in the read me files..
Compatibility with Terrain Mesh

This scenery should work perfectly well with any commercial or freeware LOD 9 or 10 mesh.  To experience the full detail of the mountain I recommend setting your TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 in your FS9.cfg.  However, you can run with a lower setting of 19 or 20.

Landclass & Textures

I used Birds Eye View (BEV) textures and custom textures in designing this scenery.   Choice of textures, from default FS9 to other commercial packages FS Scene is often user personal preference.  I tested the scenery in all seasons using BEV and default.  There are some minor issues (see known issues below) with textures that are noticeable during the transition from summer into fall season but I think most folks will not be too concerned about this.  I hope not anyway because I do not know how to fix them.

Installation in FS2004

1)  Extract mrnp1.zip to your base Flight Simulator 9 folder, making sure that the "use folder names" option is enabled. All files will extract into their required locations.  Overwrite

Ok why did you put effects in the addon scenery folder :o
All you should have done was to
1. make a folder inside of the addon scenery folder.
2. make two folders inside of the first folder one called scenery the other called textures.
3. put all bgl file into the scenery folder of the  new folder you made.
4. put all textures if any into the texture folder .
If there are effects files then they would go into the main FS effects folder and not the scenery folder.
5. Start FS select the add new scenery icon in the main menu then browse to the new folder you made and the new scenery folder within the new folder and then press enter.
6. Restart FS and that should do it. If you are still having problems make sure your downloads are good files and are not either corrupt or incomplete. 8-)

First make sure the scenery is installed as Gary outlined. (If you have to remove your original install, be sure to delete it from the Scenery Library before removing, or moving the files to a new folder.)

The 'scenery.dat' file is created by the sim, it's normal.

There are a few reasons why the sim would quit when flying into an area. These could involve 'bad' textures or conflicts or a 'seasonal CTD'**. Does

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
