I'm not real familiar with the wokings of windows. I downloaded a couple of planes from here. I'm not sure I saved them the same way. One actually shows up in the aircraft selection and the others do not. I down load to desktop then I open the flight simulator 9 folder and drag and drop them in the aircraft folder. Is there a better way and do I need to  do anything other than put them in the aircraft folder?

Have you read the ReadMe included in the file ::), because most of FS downloads include a ReadMe file.

In order to "unzip" compressed/zipped folders you'll need to use a utility like Winzip. You can download winzip from the internet (just google Winzip). They offer an "evaluation" version and a payware version. You do not need the payware version, just get the "evaluation" version.

Just like to point out that this is not necessary. WinXP has its own 'Compressed Folders' utility & I'm sure this also applies to Vista. This is perfectly adequate for extracting zipfiles posted at Simviation & other major FS sites.

The WinZip evaluation version is limited to something like 30 days. After it expires you're either forced to purchase the full version or find an alternative utility. There are several freeware unzipper utilities available that are equally as good, if not better for our purposes. One that I can recommend is ALZip. http://www.altools.net/ALTools/ALZip/tabid/53/Default.aspx

Yes, forgot this. I've used winzip for years, always forget about the xp utility.

Not important except to confirm my facts.

Dont get me wrong, I didn't intend to come off as argumentative about it. I feel the same as you about it. I had never heard that about the latest version of winzip. Anyway, I said I'd update by this morning: admittedly I forgot to check my version of winzip when I got home last night (wifey had me helping with the cooking and cleaning).

So, I just downloaded the latest version on my work computer. There's now a pop-up win you first start the eval. version asking you if you'd like to buy or use the evaluation version. I know my version at home doesn't have this pop-up. Never has. I must be running an older version of it.

That being said, I can see I was incorrect about the eval. version. I stand corrected. I have no qualms about admitting when I'm wrong. :D

Thanks everyone. This was real helpful. The link that Asher posted was great. I downloaded an addon scenery  file, so I'm going to try to figure out how that works. Thanks for your help. Probably will not be the last time.
