Kai Tak runway lights now showing.

Postby gypsymoth » Tue Sep 18, 2007 2:41 pm

My default Kai Tak has just started showing runway lights at dusk when I use my laptop.  I have not added them.  It would be interesting to find out where they came from but I'd rather like to add them to my desktop FS9.   I copied the VHHX blg from the laptop addon scenery/scenery folder to a zip-drive & pasted it into the desktop folder but they don't show.    I'd be grateful for any hints about this puzzle.

First, make sure the VHHX file (AF2_VHHX.bgl ?) is in an active \scenery\ sub folder, such as...\Addon Scenery\scenery\.

On your laptop: Did you recently restore the 'halo.bmp' file in the main \Texture\ folder? That would account for the lights recently appearing.

Check you desktop for the same file.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Hello Dave.   It is in the main Addon scenery\scenery folder.   As far as the laptop goes I did install Flight Environment & then Active Sky recently & I've not knowingly restored the halo.bmp, & that file is 170KB.   The desktop file is 87kb 5/5/03 as you describe.

Just to see what might happen I put the 170KB file from the laptop in after backing -up, hoping the new file might do the trick but the lights don't show.  Very odd.
Thanks for your help!
TW.

That is odd.....

What add-on(s) are you using for Kai Tak?

Dave

Good morning. Dave    I'm not using any addons at KT.  It is stock default.    I use Hong Kong Int to Kai Tak for short first flights with new aircraft & forgot to change to daytime so carried on with the dusk time at 17.10, which is how I came across the runway lights.   I went straight to the desktop to check & of course there were no lights.   Back to the laptop - lights!     As I said - I have added FE & Active Sky but no scenery apart from Jersey, Guernsey & the UKmil VC10 stuff.

As it stands it's nice to fly in to KT now to see the lights but I'm at a loss to explain how they arrived!!    Interesting that the haol.bmp in the laptop is 170KB & 87 in the desktop.     I used the same FS install in both machines too.

You mentioned having/moving a VHHX.bgl file. Though this is not necessarily an airport file, it is not a stock file, so must be from some addon.

Thanks Dave.   The blg file I moved from the laptop to the desktop was the one with the night-lights but it didn't work so I admitted defeat & installed a Kaitak to the desktop FS9 from a friend's FS9.   It doesn't show so I've posted another topic about that.
