Roads in Flight Simulator

Why did Microsoft put such unrealistic roads in FS? I understand they can't make every single road that exsists and I understand it can't look perfect but I think they can look a little better. Is there a logical reason why the roads in FS look the way they do?  :-?

I think it was an attempt to stop me using my trusty AA Road Atlas for navigation ;D

It is hard to develop a road that fits into every part of the world, and they probably figured they could use the resources elswhere.

It's a flight simulator, don't worry about the roads.  ;D ;D

Just think about it everything that goes into flight simulator has to be programmed by someone along the line, a real life person. That is why I'm still skeptical of the idea that flightsim in a few 'decades'(?) will be like real life because every extra object you place has to be designed and textures. No matter how good the technology, you still need people on one end  ;)

Exactly!

Maybe we could put an infinite number of monkeys on an infinite number of computers typing away into infinity until we get a truly perfect Flight Sim!  ;) ;D

According to my Maps of California, etc, I can accurately follow Highway 101 from San Diego to Seattle...;)...!
...also Highway 1 up the Pacific Coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
In FS 2004.

F.....Easy Rider... 8-)...!

We're just talking about the quality of the roads. I know that we can't have every single road in the world put in FS but I do think that Microsoft can improve the quality of their roads in FS. ;)

I just download a (free) better/nicer road system for my FS 2004.

My present set contains traffic as well.....which is nice...;0...!

Mmmm - can I observe in this very High Level discussion (Residents/Adim) that it's obvious MS is an East Coast concern, when Highway 101, which I did in 1995, can be followed quite well, just try getting from Bournemouth in Dorset, UK to Salisbury in Wiltshire, and see where you end up.    Oh yes - avoid the urge to get to Carlise by road  :'(

Scenery is very nice but as TCS says, this a FLIGHT simulator  ::)

The road system, etc, in Great Britain can be completely ignored in the Flight Sim, (it doesn't exist!..;)...).

Whereas the road system, etc, in the U.S. is very accurate.
I often get my Maps out and navigate by air, using Roads, Railway lines, Rivers, and a Compass, in FS 2004.

I rarely get lost.

F....The reason why I live in England....but always Sim fly daily in the U.S (California)..... ;)...!

There's a lot of stuff in FS9 that looks bad: roads, grass, rock formations, water, trees... even many of the runways look bad (talking aesthetics here, not accuracy).

If you've ever run FS9 on a system barely up to spec for it, you can see that even as crudely-drawn as a lot of the stuff is, the graphics are a huge burden on system resources. I'm sure Uncle Bill's elves said "well, it can look perfect down to the last detail, or it can run well enough on the average kid's system to simulate actual flight."
