About a week ago i figured i would go on multiplayer with my friend... whilst flying, i figured i would try and get Nicks Crash effects to work (add the visual damage=1 bit)

anyway. i was flying at the same time as i was editing the aircraft.cfg  i wasnt in the plane i was adjusting, but i was still adjusting whilst playing

is this in anyway problematic? what about if i edited the cfg whilst flying the plane i am editing? what could that do

cheers

I've modified the CFG of the plane I'm flying while its loaded in the sim, nothing bad happens

CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG...but I assume that the CFG isn't read DURING flight, only when loading the airplane, so it shouldnt matter.  You just have to reload the plane to see any changes.

Never tried editing CFG files with the sim running myself but your edits wouldn't take effect unless you saved changes afterwards. Even then I don't think they would show up until you restarted FS. I wouldn't say it's dangerous but I wouldn't advise it. Why not edit a copy of the CFG instead?

Modifying the .cfg file while flying is the best way I know of 'tweaking' the .cfg file - or, for that matter, the .air file, the panel file or FS Edit.     Make the changes, select another aircraft, then go back to the one you were working on to see the effects of the changes.       If you plan to do a lot of 'tweaking', it makes sense to make a copy of the aircraft you're working on and do your 'tweaking' on the copy.     If you screw things up, you still have the original aircraft.     If the 'tweaks' work, all you have to do is delete the original aircraft and rename the copy back to the original name.

I edit "on the fly" with everything I make. It causes no problems, as long as you don't mess with any core fs files.
