FS9 and Vista

Postby Firezone53 » Mon Jul 30, 2007 6:37 am

Will FS9 will work on Windows Vista properly?

Since I'm planning to build/buy a new computer with Vista installed at the end of this year.

Yes, it should ;) It will most likely work, but remeber FS9 was designed for XP, so be prepared for a bit of trouble.

Also, Vista is much more resource hungry, so you may see a decrees in performance. I suppose if you build a pc, you'll budget to counteract this.

I thought FS9 will be faster on Vista.

I have some Windows 98 games running on my PC and they are running faster on my XP PC.

Games only run faster if you have more RAM.

:D  I have Vista Premium with FS9 installed.  For the most part it performs great but I do experience a few problems which are probably attributed to my video card.  I am running FS9 maxed to the hilt, as much as I want to, with no perceivable flaws due to the sim.

EMachine 3502
Intel Celeron D
3.2 Gig processor
2 G Ram
ATI PCI-E 512mb 1950pro
19" LCD Widescreen

When I shift from the sim to desktop I sometimes have a problem returning to the sim.  EZ-Scenery, a scenery add-on, refuses to register my s/n and I have to re-enter it everytime I start the sim, if I want to use it.  Turn off administrator options as they hinder modifying some files.

If you are buying a new computer at the end of the year try getting a good computer and upgrade to FSX. At the end of the year Intel will release their new 45nm CPU's and Nvidia and ATI will release new (and much more powerful) graphics cards with R700 and G92 chipsets respectively. Even if you can't buy one of those new hardware components, you will probably be able to buy some of the ones that are now "top-of-the-line" because they will surely decrease in price... and that will enable you to play FSX at really good settings and set FS9 to the absolute MAX.
And FS9 should run in Vista with no problems since it's officially stated as compatible with Vista (even though it wasn't developed for it). In terms of performance, you shouldn't notice a big difference because even though all the eye candy features in Vista are demanding, while you're playing games, those settings are automatically turned off.

Hope this was useful... cheers!

Thanks guys. ;)

And you are right, many new computer stuff would be released when i began to shop for computer parts or buying a new computer from a manufacturer.

By that time, FSX's expansion pack Adrenaline should be available.
