Need Help with (Anti-)Ialising!!!

I have Anti-Ialising activated in FS, but it seems to only work on my aircraft, not on scenery or traffic!!!

How can I fix this?

I have FS9, that graphic card: Leadtek WinFast A6600 GT TDH (Limited Edition) with NVidia GeForce 6600 GT chip and 128MB DDR3-Graphics-RAM and full DX9.0c support.

Prevailing theory says do not set anti-aliasing (AA) in FS9, use the Nvidia control panel.

In FS9 goto Settings>Display>Hardware tab: uncheck Anti-aliasing, set Filtering to Bi-linear or Tri-linear, set Mip mapping quality to 4 or 5.

To set AA in the Nvidia control panel, uncheck Application Controlled and experiment with AA levels until you get an acceptable trade off between quality and FPS. You can also experiment with AF (Anisotropic Filtering).

Addition to Dave's post above: get the latest drivers and install them properly, don't just run the executable ;)

OK I'll try! But what is antistr..filtering ? And is there a way that AA will turn on when starting FS, and automaticly turn off on exiting FS?

If it is the nVidia AA, it should be running all the time.

Anisotropic filtering = Clicky  ;)

All the best,
Alex

If Anti-Aliasing is on it should work on all objects.... It will not anti-alias textures though, so if a plane has many stripes on it the stipes may appear jagged even if AA is on.

It didn't work on all objects, but now, with the nvidia AA it works great. The only (but a big) problem is that I have to find the right position between maxed FS settings or higher AA... To run it not as a slideshow I either need to set a 2x AA and 0x AF or my FS settings down or exlude scenery. I decided to take 2x AA for normal flying, put it higher if I'm going to make scrshots, have extreme weather etc. But it all works and still looks better than before!! :)

Newer Nvidia drivers (in the last month or so) add profies for FS9 AND FSX which overrride your settings, no matter what they are, as soon as you boot the sim. Those profiles have also been reported to be CORRUPT.

If you are using the most recent Nvidia drivers I would delete the profiles Nvidia provides and set up the drivers manaully as NickN listed. Assuming your video card can handle the AA and AF. TURN OFF AA IN THE SIM AND USE THE CARDS AA SETTINGS ONLY

Try 4x AA and 16x AF. If thats too high try 2xAA and 16x or 8x AF on the card

NickN posted a warning about the Nvidia profile bug and how to fix it with the software Nhancer here:

almost forgot!

That fix was posted by a Nvidia beta driver tester who also found AA issues in flight sim after the newer Nvidia profiles were added to their driver packages some time ago

that fix was developed specifically because of not having AA work right along with wierd performance problems in certain games such as MSFS on the newer Nv drivers

First I installed that nhancer and  then de-activated Antialiasing in FS.
I opened nhancer and deleted all those profiles.
Then I made a new profile, I just called it FS9 and assigned the FS9.exe to it (think that last step isn't needed).
Then I just most of the settings called at: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1183998514
Currently I'm using an AA of Supersampling 2x2, an AF of 8x and screen syncronization checked for application.
In the next tab (settings are on three tabs) I have Texture Filtering checked the highest.
All other options and the whole 3rd tab keep unchecked.
I haven't tried out these settings on a "much-addon-scenery-place" yet, but if it works fine I'll try to set either or both AA to 4x4 Supersampling and AF to 16x.

And, yes, there's still another thing to say: I have set nhancer starts automaticly with windows, but there always occurs an error and it exits, so I have to start nhancer manually before flying. Does anybody know a fix to it?

And thank you for all the great tips!!! :D
