well..ive been flying fs now for quite a while, but have never mastered to fly a helicopter..

i can take off its just level flight and slowing down enough to land thats TRICKY..

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

I can fly basicly, a bit like a plane but you hover land and takeoff. Ask in the Flight School section.

Helo's are a pain in FS9.

I don't suggest using the default FS9 helos. The R-22 is alright, but the Bell one is utter crap.

Look into some good helicopter add-on's here  ;)

Before even attempting to fly a helo make sure you have either rudder peddles or a joy stick that has a twisting motion that you can use for the rudder. trying to fly a helo with the auto rudder feature is just plain crazy. 8-)

I fly rotorcraft in real life, and sometimes I have trouble in FS2k4.

My basic tip for landing is to dump a fair amount of power (depends on which helicopter, airspeed, etc), then adjust to a nose up attitude that bleeds off both altitude and airspeed. As you get slower and slower, you'll need to bring in the power as the helicopter falls out of the sky (which you've probably noticed), usually fairly sharply depending on a number of factors. I would then focus on slowly performing a run on landing like you would an airplane. As you get better, you can try to make the run ons slow and steeper, to the point where you are happy with the performance. I personally sit there and press a button that adjusts my throttle (TQ) by about 1% for every click. I take it out click by click to start a landing, and as the helicopter starts to drop near low airspeeds, I Start clicking it fairly fast to keep the rate of closure the same.

As far as level flight, I don't have a trim setup on my controller to make this easy, nor do I have a "stick" (I use a PS3 style controller). Therefore, I usually use a helicopter with either a force trim or an autopilot feature. I know it sounds like cheating, but it's not like a 737 AP- you need to understand rotorcraft dynamics in order to make it work well. If I don't use that, I can sit there and hold in the attitude in "regular" mode, but that's not really all that fun.

If you use the 206, about 71% tq and 10 degress nose low will get you 90 knots in the fair weather theme in my experience. This isn't far off from real life, which is how I even figured that combo out in the first place.

The best way to master helos is to visit our friends at Hoversafe http://members.shaw.ca/hoversafe/Hoversafe.htm and work through their tutorials. By the end of it you'll be buzzing between buildings and landing on top of 'em

Another great site to find a lot of information about helicopters is www.hovercontrol.com. They also do online flying lessons.

My advice is to climb to the top of a multi-story car park.

Leap off the top of the building, and whirl your arms rapidly above your head.

This will very quickly cure all your vain attempts to master the control of Helicopter flight...

...trust me... ...!
