The Sun and the Moon

I saw something today that made me wonder if Solar eclipses ever occour in Flight Simulator. I'm guessing not, but this is getting pretty close.

It would be just the sort of usless feature that Microsoft would add in to FSX. How often do they happen? Every 5-10 years I think.

I have never thought about it really, guess it would be quite cool!

How about finding out when one appeared and change the date and time in the sim to match, then fly around the area where it was visible at the particular time ;)

They do.  If you go to the right time and place you can see one.  If you really want to, go search for a history of total eclipses and find out what day, time, and place they were best viewed from.  I think there was one in the 80s in Mexico City or something that you could set and go see.

If you played FS98 they had it set where at certain dates and times things happened, like if you went back to like 1985 in Hawaii there was a big Volcano (and actually I think it's in FS9) or if you went back before the Berlin Wall was torn down you could see it

The way you could have proved it would have been to continue flying, and observe if the disc moved across the surface of the Sun over a period of time...?
..and then treated us to another screen shot... ;)...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

Actually (If I'm not mistaken by my general science teacher's manual ::)) solar eclipses happen once or twice every year, you just have to be in the right part of the world to see it...

I tried that, but the sun and the moon just moved accross the sky together (at 128x speed) until they set.

If eclipses are simulated then they're not at the times they actually happen. This shot was taken over Cornwall on 11th August 1999 at 11:03.07, the height of the last total eclipse in the UK. The moon isn't even in the sky.

Well blow me down...

Just noticed in the first screen shot....is that the Moon, (a quadrant of it), I see just to the right of the Sun... :o...?

If so, the effect you see could just be natural glare from the sun by looking straight at it...!

Often made more noticeable of you have mist, etc effects in your Weather options.

Paul...Very (Mist)erious... ;)...!

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here, but it is definately the moon in the first shot. You can't see the moon in the second becaused it is not there.

According to this dude, there's a lot of things you can do if you 'time' it just right.  ;)

He claims,,"I've still to check it out.".. if you fly over certain major cities at midnight New Year,,,you see fireworks.

In the first screen shot.....

If you were looking at a complete eclipse of the Sun showing it's Solar flares, the Moon would be directly in front of  the Sun, covering it, not offset to one side of it as in the first screen shot!...;)..!

Paul...;)...!
