Major problem here.

Hi all,
I downloaded a 777 panel last night. Followed the intructions to the letter. Now i can't even get the game to run. I get an error message everytime i try and start the game.
I was going to put a jpeg in here of the error, but i can't work out how to do it. But this is the error.

Flight simulator has detected potentially incompatible aircraft or software.

File: sound.dll.

Do you want to load this software?

If i click no, or yes, i still get the "send don't send" message.

The panel i downloaded was 777dlx6.zip.
I don't know if i've overwritten something during the installation or what.
I don't want to have to reinstall flight simulator if i can help it. As its massive at the moment.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Stephen.

File: sound.dll.

Hi Stephen. Is this FSSound.dll? If so find fs9.cfg, open it in Notepad & add this entry

[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1

Exit Notepad saving changes. Tell me if that fixed it.

PS. Take a backup copy of fs9.cfg before editing it.

Hi,
My fs9 config file already has that line in it. I remember adding it a while ago, but i've just checked. The file on the error message just says. File: sound.dll.

Hi, I wish it was that simple. I've done that, but i think installing the other one may have overwritten a gauge or something. I can't think what other thing it could have altered, but still have the problem :(

I found 777dlx6.zip & downloaded it to check it out. I haven't tried installing it. Not sure if it's a default file but I already have a file named SOUND.dll in FS9\Modules. This is Version 9.0.0.30612 dated 13/06/2003. The one included with the panel is an earlier version 8.0.0.10919 dated 19/09/2001. The instructions don't mention this file & it's possible it was included by mistake instead of FSSound.dll. If you overwrote the original file on installing the panel I suspect that is the cause of your problem. If sound.dll is a default file you should find it on one of the FS9 CDs.

It's a good idea not to overwrite default files when installing FS addons. If in doubt, err on the side of caution.

Thanks Hagar :) That was the problem. I got my mate to send me his sound.dll file and overwrote the one that was causing the problem.
Cheers.
Stephen.
