Got issues with your nVidia graphics in FS9 ?

There are a lot of complaints around about the graphics rendering not being up to par using nVidia based GPU's. I had a devil of a time myself with my onboard graphics adapter, a GE Force 6100.

If you're serious about gaming, you need to get off that on-board video asap. Try getting into the BIOS, that's usually where you can disable the on-board graphics. BTW, are you running Vista?

I would not even attempt to run FS9 using on board graphics. Granted you can usually get them to work but your frame rates are probably going to be the pits. If you are really serious about any kind of gaming on a computer you should invest in a video card. One with a minimum of 256 K ram 8-)

I am not a serious gamer at all.
I do not have any interest at this point in running any other games other than FS, and in that "game" I am more interested in the simulation factor than the realism of the paint schemes on the outside of the buildings in the scenery, etc.

Hello JLCGull,
thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community. I remember your
shoreline graphics problem very well... kept you busy in from February, didn't id...? I tried to help a little, writing one of my first posts here, and now it seems you've become an expert on the issue yourself...

Doesn't being persistent always pay off...
And it's nice to see there's still people who care about
flying, fancy graphics or no.
So, happy flying to everyone!

I have had a video card of some kind or the other for a long time now. Using a card will improve all aspects of the game. If you get one with 256 k ram you will not beleive what diffeerance it will make. Right now AGP slot video cards are not that expensive. You can get one under $100.00 Even a PCI card would be better than on board graphics. It is not necassary for you to go over board.
I am using one of the top of the line AGP cards right now and I play no other games at all just FS9 and FSX 8-)

Every time I do an update or change drivers on my computer I hold my breath. Windows is so G#d Da#m unstable that often little tweaks and fixes really screw things up.
My machine is working well for me right now. I use it for a lot of other (more important) stuff than just shooting the occasional sim IFR approach in below minimum weather with a partial panel just to see if I can pull it off.
The change over to an external card and scraping out the 6100 on-board drivers etc. is not a well trodden or documented path.
Maybe when some better knowlege base on how to change over the GPU without screwing up everything else is available I'll consider it, but for now "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" works for me. The thought of getting into it and finding all sorts of gremlins lurking in the changeover sounds like time and effort I don't need to spend. I have already spent enough time and effort on this silly problem as it is.
I do appreciate your response though. Others following this thread may feel differently than I, and more information is good information.
