AI Aircraft landing behavior

Has anyone else found themselves in the middle of an IFR landing with the runway just ahead when suddenly an AI aircraft comes cruising past from above and "steals" your place in line for the runway, eventually forcing a go around command from ATC?

It's really not a big deal and I'm not looking for a fix, just wondering if it happens to anyone else.

I'm beginning to think that Orbit Airlines has it in for me! ;) Curse them and their MD-80's! ;D

You might believe it or not, there's a way for you to do the same, and that's how you do it:

When you know you're in a condition of high traffic and the tower gives you the last vector to either ILS or visual telling you to switch on the tower... well...

...one can always forget to switch on the tower, now can s/he? ;D

When the approach gives you the last vector and tells you to switch frequency, for them you don't exist anymore, so you can do a slalom between slower planes to get on the runway for first. Once on the tarmac (or whatever), contact ground and good parking. ;)

Suggested either a great accuracy not to hit AI planes (that are indestructible while your plane isn't) or the deactivation of the collision with other planes (better safe than sorry). ;)

Heh indeed, i was on an ILS and something like 9.4NM and heard the tower calling a B737 10NM, i was like huh? This is my place! And suddenly i got blown away from the jetblast as the 737 went right past me.

Well, a few days ago I was on final approach into El Alto airport, La Paz, and I overtook another plane, also on its final approach. I still was no. 1 for landing, even so I was told to go around. Needless to say, I just landed anyway. The only sanction was an angry ATC-voice telling me I wasn't authorized to land, something I knew already. And I just taxied to the gate.

Well, that works too, but really I can't stomach the attitude of those idiots in the virtual tower, that mess things up and then take it on the user, without producing myself in a show of scurrilities I'm not going to detail here. So, when I even distantly have a hunch this would be one of those landings, I usually do not switch on the tower after the last hand-off. ;D

Of course, to each their own. ;)

Here is a Google for the FS addon, AISmooth. A good add-on that assists the overworked FS controllers to untangle traffic.

Well, since it is just a sim, I usualy laugh when the overtaker shows up - right after I utter "sonova...." Marketing at MS might want to tone down the "As real as it gets" slogan! ;)

AISmooth is a great addition for busy airports with lots of AI.

Try the option to manage approach speed... that rally helps MOST of the time.

best,

i usually take a place somewhere about five miles behind the last in line then ride their coattails till a few have landed then call for clearance, (since controllers only use on runway for take-off and one for landing)

I sometimes am hurried by faster aircraft, so i come in hot, then rear up at the last moment so they get a go around, (somtimes they are on the final, like less than 500ft above the tarmac) which is kinda cool watching them spool up and go overhead

most of the time im un-hurried though, and just float in, (my finals are cronically under five miles even for heavies) so much for noise abatement rules

I just flew from Sacremento to Pittsburg, I swear I must have had at least a dozen Mooneys within five miles and two or three under one mile. Trying to put a scratch on my Connie :'(

Try this!! Rwy 26 at Gatwick. As soon as you join the queue of a/c waiting to take off ATC gives you the option to call "Ready for departure" Everybody in front of you is told to "Hold short" whilst you take to the grass to get to the threshold.  Whilst on the subject of crappy FS9 ATC Does anyone know how to stop the ridiculous messsages "Traffic at 6 o'clock report them in sight!"  I'm in the cockpit of an airliner i can only see 10 to 2 or 9 to 3 if I look carefully.

When the request is a stupid one like that, I don't answer. At all. After a while they simply forget about it, but a lot after I did. :P

Had it happen last night when on approach to San Salvadore airport on ILS. I was on a very short final and they gave me a go around , I guess I could have landed but I wanted to see what the abort procedures were on ILS landing. Never has happened before though, thought it was rather strange.

I guess, when it's a new experience it may be interesting. But it gets old fast. ::)

After half a dozen times I had my full of it and found my little workaround. And I'm speaking of FS2002. 8-)
