How to stop Shimmer and Shake?

Postby Hotshot » Wed Mar 21, 2007 11:50 am

The irritating shimmer of the trees bugs me in both fs9 and FSX.   In my fs9, Mipmap seems the only setting that influences this, and at 4 the shimmer is just about tolerable, but I can't find an FSX setting that does the job.  Any suggestions would be very welcome... :(

Can't vouch for "the cross", but under FS9 the shimmer goes away at mipmap 4 (max 5) and at least Antialiasing 2X (better if 4X).

Have you set a minimum of antialiasing? What videocard do you have? What drivers are you using (version)?

Thanks. AA is 4x, anisto 4x,  both set in Nvidia panel. Trilinear set ingame. Card: Geforce 6800GT. Driver:77 something [later versions disastrous] CPU: AMD 4000+. RAM 2 gig.

On Mipmap 4, shimmer terrible, on 5 even worse, so I'm stuck on 4.

In FS9, go in settings/display/hardware look for the slider "global max texture size", if it's not on "massive", then put it there yourself.

Always there, control that the filtering is active and possibly trilinear.

If the in-game selection "anti-aliasing" is active, deselect it and go only by hardware panel settings.

In the hardware panel of the videocard, ensure that your preferences are either "global" (and so used by all 3D programs) or are pointed to FS9.exe (if you defined them for another program only, FS9 will not use them).

Always in the hardware panel of the videocard, try bringing anisotropic up to at least 8.

Let us know.

PS
I'm using the Forceware 91.47 with more than good results. The 77 and odd might be a little old.
