How to Delete 'NO CD Crack'?

Hi Folks,

Can anyone tell me how I can delete the 'no CD crack' from FS9?

I recently had a failure to my DVD player, so had to install the crack to continue 'flying'.  Before doing so I updated to the 9.1 version.  What I found was that the preview window wouldn't show aircraft when creating a flight - which I could have lived with - but worse was to come.  Whenever I exited from the sim' my computer would crash, meaning I'd have to reboot or turn off completely.

I now have a new DVD player installed, but of course, the crack is still in place (and still creating the problems mentioned above).  I remember creating an 'original fs9.exe' backup when I installed the crack, but I just can't find it now.

Any help/suggestions to get round this would be great.  Thanks!

Andi

Are you sure it's not a video driver issue? That's what the disappearing previews sound like, from what people have posted here in the past.

Well it would help if you could find the backup you created. If you can then all you need to do is rename it fs9.exe in the root of the Fs9 folder and you will overwrite the no cd crack. if you cant find it, post here and i will see what i, or someone else can do for you.

The original FS9.exe file is on the FIRST CD I believe  all you have to do is to unzip the cab file into a temp directory NOT FS2004 directory then just drag the FS9.exe over and overwrite  8-)

That Fs9.exe is the 9.0. He installed the patch. Now the problem is to find a Fs9.exe V9.1. :exclamation

That is what my post said THE ORIGINAL FS9.EXE and the original post did not mention any version but stated the original FS9.EXE  :P

Surely, if he made a backup then we need to find that and put it back as the .exe in the root folder.

@Andi:
do a search of you rhard drive for fs9.exe and see if you can find this file, after this, its all easy!!!!

OK, folks, I found that original fs.9 backup.  You'd think 'problem solved' .... nope, it's never that easy with me (and/or my system).   :(

I renamed the backup as fs.9.exe.  Clicking on it - from within the fs9 root folder - got the sim up and running with preview window, etc, and it didn't CTB when I closed down.

I then tried clicking on the desktop icon for fs.9, and got the sim, complete with old problems back again.

I tried deleting the version of the fs.9.exe I didn't want (the one with the crack in it).  Clicked on the desktop icon, got the sim and problems both.  Restoring the deleted file and clicking on the desktop icon just got me the same result as above.

How about if I delete BOTH fs.9.exe files; import the original fs.9.exe from Disc1; then reapply the patch to bring me back up to version fs9.1 - would that work?   :-/

Well it depends.  My version came with 9.1 as default, or is your version older than that?

Why don't you delete your FS9.exe & rename the backup copy to FS9.exe?

Hi Folks,

Here's the latest 'wrinkle' .....

Just to double-check, I removed the disc from the DVD-player and clicked on the fs9 icon on the desktop.  I then got the appropriate error message.  This tells me that the version of fs9.exe that the system is reading must be the original one (ie; the one without the crack installed).  Would you agree?

So, it's reading the original and the old one (with crack) is deleted.  Fine ... except I'm still getting a blank preview screen in 'Create Flight' and a CTD when I exit the sim'.   :-?  I tried loading fs9 from the icon within the root file, just to see if it made a difference - it didn't, of course.   :'(

Still haven't tried importing the original fs9.exe from Disc1 yet (I find that 'life' continually gets in the way of my simming nowadays .... when I can get the system to work, that is).

Thanks, Hagar, but the file was named fs9.exe - the 'fs.9.exe' was just a slip of the keyboard.

So, I deleted all the fs9.exe files (the original in the root file and the 'old' versions in the recycle bin).  I also removed the 9.1 update just for jollies.  Then I imported the fs9.exe from Disc1, which BTW, is billed as version 9.1.0.40901 (?).  Clicked on the desktop icon; sim' loaded as usual, but still no image in preview screen and total CTD on exit (when it crashes the screen image is smeared horizontally, like looking at a set of Venetian blinds: weird).

OK, guys, here's a couple of stupid questions (but I'm nearing the end of my rope on this problem) .... am I getting the original fs9.exe from the right file?  According to MS it should be on Disc1 in the file called 'GAME'.  Inside this there is no file called "fs9.exe", but there is an aeroplane icon named "FS9".  This is what I copied and pasted into the root file, as there was nothing else within 'GAME' tagged with 'fs9'.

Second question ... I clicked on the properties of the desktop icon to see where it was looking for 'fs9.exe'.  It gave the correct path, but, the path-name looked like this - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\FS9.EXE.EXE"  Why the extra 'exe' on the end?  I've tried loading the sim' with and without the extra 'exe' tagged on the end ... makes no difference.  I've also tried naming the root file 'fs.9' (the way it appears within the 'GAME' file) and also 'fs9.exe' ... again, makes no difference.

Last question .... is there an easy way to re-install fs9 (which is beginning to look like what I'll have to do) without losing all my add-ons?  If I copy and zip the 'Aircraft' files, etc, etc, will I be able to paste them back in to the new install successfully?   :-/

Thanks for all the suggestions, so far.

Andi
