Why does ATC do this??

Ok I just got done flying a flight from KAUS to KDTW. I've landed and am sitting on the taxi way contacting ATC for further instructions on what gate I'm supposed to be at. I passengers (FSP) aboard and where does ATC tell me to go?? Infront of a hanger building.

WHY?????

I want to go to a gate where I can drop passengers off.

I'm almost tempted to buy Radar Contact. I think the ATC is a bit smarter in that program than the default one.

Which brings me to another rant. All of the airports I've been to (KLAX, KSFO, KMIA, KSEA, KSAN) show the gates. KDTW however, has none.

WHY????

I assume you are dealing with all the default AFCADS because you didnt mention differently.

When you want to go to the gate, ask to go to the gate.  Normally you will be taken to a gate, but there is a major problem with default afcads: they are too small.  At an airport where there may be hundreds of gates, FS typically has much less, meaning that gates fill quickly.  Often times when the gate is full, you will be sent somewhere else.  Also, sometimes the hanger areas in default are labled as gates, so FS thinks its sending you to a gate.

The gates showing and not showing has to do with your autogen, you need to turn up scenery complexity to see them.

I'm probably on the wrong page here, but doesn't what you have entered in the 'parking' line of the aircraft.cfg have somehing to do with where ATC will send you? can't you just put in what ever the code is for the airline is based the airport in the cinfig so ATC sends you to that airlines gates?

that generally works with AI, not sure if it works on gate choice for the user aircraft.  However,  asking for a gate should send you to a gate provided that there are gates spots that are large enough for your aircraft.  if the ramp area/hangar area is marked as a gate, it may send you there.  but if the airport is configured right, you should get a gate, reguardless of the entry on that line.

I just go ahead and park at any gate I want to now. I don't have the traffic settings set high (34%) so there is alot of open gate spots at the airport.
