mirical landing

i was doing London -Paris with a 737, during aproach the paris control tower instructs me to land on 9L, partly because of the traffic and because of the really bad weather, all is fine untill i see the size of the runway, a very small and short, i might add, to manage to land and stop before it ended i needed to slow my speed right down and use every single inch of the runway.

i will never forget this landing, partly cos you could see through the rain.

feel free to let me know any of you're unforgetable experiences.

Er... "mirical"?
Which Paris airport where you landing in, anyway? And how long was the runway? Which plane were you flying?

::) Early days of FS9 I landed at Kai Tak, Hong Kong. Very sweet, came over the hills just right to checker board without any practice. Flying B737 Cathay. Its an airport I could not be without, as also Meigs.
This is the one and only large jet landing I have ever made without a high bounce!

keep smiling :D

On a practice landing at KLAX there were about 5 planes going for 4 runways. They were literally pushing me out of the way. I wouldn't call it a miracle that i landed but It was quite a fun experience.

Boeing 747 at EGTC (Cranfield/prop base) still able to do it now at normal landing speed.

Try landing a DC-3 at Black Rapids, Alaska.  You pretty much have to stall it on landing.  Or better yet, try landing a 727F, fully loaded or empty at Port Clarence, Alaska.  Wow.

Bringing my Lear 45 into LFOK last night after a max-range flight. ATC ordered me to go around on perfect approaches three times, using up almost all of my reserves. On the fourth try they told a Cessna to take off while I was about 7 miles out. The Cessna cleared the runway as I hit three miles and I glanced at my fuel: left tank empty, right tank empty, center tank 10 lbs. I landed and while activating my thrust reversers, I run out of gas.

Marksman's tale is far from an isolated case, and the reason I use only partially the default ATC, as you can read in the two stories below. ;)

Two landings on mine stand out in my head in fact. One was a CAT IIIc landing I did in a non CAT III capable Bae146 on Bangkok. ATC in fact assigned me in landing a runway with almost no illumination. Was on fuel fumes and could not divert. Touched tarmac with no flare. A miracle happened than the langing gear did not give in. Practically disengaged both AT and AP on the runway after that both the variometer and the HSI told me I was leveled on ground. ;D

The other landing happened last week in EDDF, while in final on my trusty PC12 on the 25L did not switch on the tower after the hand-off, I did it on purpose because of a hunch, a hunch that proved itself correct when after having broken clouds I could see the start of the runway I had to land on occupied by a A340 left there and forgot by ground control. Simply disengaged AP and landed a little more down the runway (that was way longer than my plane needed). Have made a topic of it with shots in the freeware forum too. :D

Autopilot on final? Bah! The only time I use AP after I get vectored to the runway is  if I lose sight of the runway. That being said, the ILS freq is always in my NAV1 with the console set to NAV when I am on approach because when using real wx, the sim loves to switch you from 20nm visibility to 1/16 visibility and rain at the most inopportune times. But I always fly as much of the approach and final manually as possible, once I can see the VASI and runway lights, I disengage AP (don't quite know why I care about the VASI though, if all four lights aren't red, its going to be ugly).

I would have ignored ATC on the third go-around, but I could see the runway, and saw a 172 calmly taxiing along the runway past the first turnoff, and since the runway at LFOK isn't exactly long for a Lear, and I was coming in rather fast due to a botched go-around (160kts, 0 flaps) I couldn't just fly over the obstruction like ashaman did.

Most of my "miracle" landings have been in GA aircraft though, since I can't fly or land a single engine prop to save my life, but I almost never put anything bizjet size or larger down past the second "land here" dash, occasionally I put it down before the numbers, but thats only when I try to do something like land a -225 on a 500ft strip.

Autopilot in final is good if you can't see the nose of your plane, ;) and while I'm a SIH lover myself (Stick In Hand) in landing, the weather was bad and visibility worse (being flying in clouds) up until, as I said, having broken clouds, about 1500 feet AGL, under the clouds there was good visibility. Usually I take control from the AP as soon as visual contact with the runway is established. The A340 stuck at the end of the runway only made it all more urgent. :)

A while ago i was fliying to innsbruck, after the LOWI_APP put me in a holding pattern for 10 minutes i got cleared for a approach, but he kept me way to high, so i had to do a visual approach, fortunately my F-28 can slow down quikly.

But did you get the "Crash" banner before or after it stopped moving?
