Is it possible to run FS9 on a widescreen monitor without the picture becoming distorted?

A friend of mine has the same problem; I think there might be a way to set up the display driver to a 4/3 aspect ratio with black bands on the sides, but that would depend on the display drivers so I don't think it'd work on any PC. If someone has a better idea, I'm interested.

Change the resolution, and the picture should stretch along the entire screen. Look in the manual of the TV/Moniter to find the native resolution ;)

It depends on your video card as some don't support the widescreen format. I recently purchased a 19" widescreen monitor & the recommended resolution is 1440 x 900. I use this resolution for my Desktop & in all my MS sims including FS9.

I have a 20" Dell 2005FPW monitor with a native resolution of 1680 X 1050. Panels appear wider than they do on a square screen but I am so used to it that it looks odd when I see fs on non-wide monitors!
When I drop to the next resolution down I get a black border down the right side of the screen when running fs. I always run it at the native 1680 X 1050, though, on the nVidia 6800 card I have.

I've got a 19" Widescreen and run at 1440X900. It works fine, everything looks normal except panels.

I've got two monitors and I'm wondering how I can manage the FlightSim to use both monitors. I don't expect it working well (because my graphic card isn't that good), I'd just be interested in that.

I've recently gotten a 25" widescreen monitor, and the recommended resolution is 1920x1200 (which if you change FS to that setting, will not be stretched then).
Sadly, my PC is no where near capable of acheiving that resolution without losing massive frames. :-/

You could easily run panels on that screen, or things like FSnav and the GPS.

I think you're splitting hairs. I never liked 2D panels anyway.

The panel in Hagar's screenshot doesn't look distorted to me - that's how mine looks. I bought a 34" widescreen TV 14 years ago so am used to seeing things in widescreen aspect. Seeing 14.3 now looks very odd. My advice is - get the widescreen & you'll soon wonder how you got by without it 8-)
