A question about the Cessna

Is the default Cessna in FS2004 always touchy feely?? I'm flyin right, and I pull back slightly to gain some altitude and the nose just goes way up almost pointing vertically and when I turn, I can't turn gently. I end almost completely sideways like its a stunt plane lol.

I have two suggestions for you:

1) open fs9.cfg, find the [controls] section and add this line:
stick_sensitivity_mode=0
(If there is a stick_sensitivity_mode line already, modify it so that the value is 0).
This will affect all aircraft and in my case it made an enormous difference; the stick will be much less prone to spikes.

2) download and use, as a replacement to the default C172, RealAir's C172 (here); its flight model is much more realistic.

Ditch the default C172 for the free and very nice one mentioned above, then check your sensitivity settings. start low and work your way up to something that feels about right. Also make sure you don't have the trim set for full nose-up pitch or something like that.

What kind of controller are you using?

Also: if you're new at flying light singles, you may still be overcontrolling. The C172 is hardly a stunt plane, but compared to most airliners it's pretty snappy.

Good question rotty. This has to be a controller issue.

The default cessna is of course not real, but it behaves good, and you don't need any modifications to fly it "as real as it gets".
But as you said rotty, check the pitch/elevator settings, and if you want more, listen to FridayChild.
Then you're forced to check it all.
Happy flying.

I'm using a PS2 like controller that I got from Walmart. I have no problems with the PMDG 747. The default one is touchy feely. I'm gonna try the configuration thingie that FridayChild suggested and I'm gonna download the cessna also.

You mean you are using a digital joypad?
If it is so, no wonder you are having a hard time controlling aircraft.
Those joypads can only send an on/off signal: the neutral position is a 0 and any direction is 1. That means, you can't make smooth adjustements to the controls. You need an analog joystick/yoke. Otherwise, don't expect much improvement from the settings I suggested.

Get a cheap joystick at least... you don't know what you're missing!!

I seem to fly worse with a joystick. I was seriously thinking of getting a steering wheel and rudder pedals. Actually I would rather just have this whole thing right here

Know where I could find one for say $400 bucks? lol

EDIT: I really like this Cessna plane. Easier to fly in my view. I've been successful in landing this thing on the runway and haven't crashed yet. I've been doing most of the training at KSEA. I have a better chance at lining up with the runway there for some reason. A couple of times I sort of bounced when I hit the runway because I didn't pull the nose up higher like I should but I'm getting it. I'm also getting better at the descent rate too. Controlling the speed and stuff.
