How do i call a Mayday

Postby flyingbartdude. » Fri Dec 29, 2006 12:36 pm

Hi Guys I have had fs9 for some time now and have recently been flying with emergencies such as engine failure ect. My question is this how do you tell the control tower that you have a failure and you need to land quick is there a procedure or a transponder code for it. Any help much appreciated
Thanks flyingbartdude. ;)

You could try the RL emergency codes:

Transponder = 7700

VHF = 121.5

I've never used these myself in FS9 - however, I suspect that in FS9 nothing happens - leaving you to peacefully wend your way, without interuption, directly to the crash site.

Cheers,

Well.
Try and open the window, and call for help. Your nabo will certenly come. You have to explain and it'll cost some glasses.

You're right, nothing happens. But it doesn't hurt to still practice emergency procedures, just leave out the air traffic control part of the checklist ;)

Isn't there also a procedure that involves putting your head between your legs and kissing your a**e goodbye??

I believe that is is also acceptable to switch off your monitor just before the point of impact - this may help in preventing flashbacks & restless nights caused by the trauma of the crash.

It will also enable you forget about flying for a while - before you start the lengthy search of your office / bedroom / computer room for the missing black box.

LOL...If flying VFR in normal circumstances, always dial in 1200 in the transponder indicating VFR flight ;)

121.5 and 7700 have no effect in FS9 other than ATC telling you to reset your transponder code!!!!!!!!!
There isn't really any point in practising the full emergency procedure in FS9. For one, nobody is listening to you. And, it's a sim so there's no "emergency!!!!"
Having ditched for real in the English Chanel due to a broken prop I can tell you that the real emergency procedure concentrates the mind  rather well!!!!

I do wish that a future FS provides a more realistic ATC. Not just energencies but also speed advisories AND pressure in millibars. The US is the ONLY country that doesn't use millibars!!!!

FS9 may not have emergencies in it, but you can still practice your emergency procedures. I've never had a real emergency while flying, but I still practiced them everytime I flew with my instructor ;)

The only thing thou shalt receive is a more graphical intensive beautiful looking version of FS98, instead (as already done up till now). Make due, shut up and PAY. :P ;D

As for the millibars... when there will be a sim that will not look as the USA as the center of the universe... and only maybe. ::)

Most you can do is pretend... in RL there's not much ATC can do for you anyway except call SAR once they know your position and try to get other traffic the hell out of your way.

But it depends on the emergency... if there's time (altitude, in other words), they can help with vectors to the nearest suitable airport, traffic alerts, etc.

If you want to make a fool out of yourself and say it out loud, here's what you say:

"Mayday mayday mayday; (aircraft type and N-number); (position); (nature of emergency); (intentions)."

On 121.5, and squawking 7700... if there's time.
