CIVA Ins Expired???

I've been browsing on another forum when I passed on a user that lamented the expiration of the CIVA Ins.

Curious about it, I downloaded it and in fact on one of the readmes there's a expiration date at January 1 2007.

Shame.

I remember having used it only once, on a DC8 from LIRF to RJAA, then I didn't really find a reason to use it anymore. It was really well done.

Whyever did the authors do a thing like that? :(

Sounds like crippleware.
So you'd buy a license if you liked it

Nope.

It was a freeware.

Only with a expiring date.

I mean, it got out a lot of time ago, and in various successive versions (all of them rigorously freeware) reached V1.40 (the actual). But only recently all whom used it discovered that it had been crippled. And without a understandable reason.

Or perhaps... it's the same reasoning... or almost the same reasoning Peter Dawson did. Make people appreciate his freeware until a certain point after which make it become payware to rein in money from people taken from the throat.

Possible.

Though... well, that I know of the authors of the CIVA haven't began selling their gauge as yet, and had they had the intention to become followers of the Dawson's school of (adjectives deleted to avoid being sued) :-X, they would have already made it known.

Who knows the real reason behind this odd fact. :-/
