Serious problem

Postby boss_dj » Wed Feb 25, 2004 11:35 pm

I have encountered a serious problem with FS9.  I tried to run it today and the opening screen came up, but the background never blacked out.  It then locks up tight.  I tried everything on the MS web site, including uninstalling and installing.  I deleted everything on my computer that has to do with FS9.  A new install does the same thing.  I'm getting really pissed and am getting no help from Microsoft (imagine that!).  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your problem boss_dj.  From what I understand, M$ is pretty good about tech support.  I dont't know as I never had to call them (knock on wood). ;D
Anyway, have you changed anything to either your computer or your FS9, such as add-ons?
Also, what are your system specs?  That might give us a good starting point.

Ditto to what svenpurple7 said,

the more details you can provide, the better chance someone will be able to figure out what is going on.

I'm running an Athalon 2.4 ghz, 128 MB ram, Nvidia geforce (not sure exactly what model), I had quite a few add-ons (mostly aircraft and scenery), but removed all of it from my hard drive, to no avail.  I was on hold with MS tech support for 30 mins. long distance.  The 800 tech line wanted a cc number, which I do not give over the phone, even to a respected corportation.  You never know who else is listening.  Thanks for the quick replies.

Maybe this will work. Drag the FS9.cfg file to a temporary folder somewhere and then start FS2004.

It's located C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

Hope it helps

more details boss_dj

look at Device manager and see what nvidia card you are running.
Which version of Windows?

Has the flight sim been running up until now with no problems?

Can you think of anything you added, changed,  or downloaded that brought this behavior on?

Are you sure that's an Athlon 2.4 gig?
Are you sure about that 128 megs of RAM? (sytem memory)

You can download this little system info utility if you don't know how to get this info off your system.

I just checked my system info and it's actually a 1.67 gig processor with 256 megs of ram.  Whoops.  I'm running Windows XP home.  I tried the fs9.cfg thing, and it didn't work.  Thanks, though.  It's the Geforce mx 440 video card.  Thanks everyone.

I have directx 9 and just downloaded the latest video driver last week.  I can't think of anything I added that coincided with it crashing.  Even so, with a complete re-install that should rule out any add-ons, I would think.

Thanks again.

First make sure you don't have any viruses or spyware. If that doesn't work then call microsoft or your computer company. I hope you get it running again sometime. Worst case scenario, you would have to get a new computer.
