I have heard a lot talked about 'Active Sky'. I have read some reviews and it seems to be a great improvement on the 'Real' FS weather. But how good is it? Before I part with my cash will it solve a problem I had this morning?
I took off from Bristol (UK) in overcast foggy conditions and suddenly at 3000' I am flying on a clear sunny day with unlimited visibility with no transition. I have noticed that the weather changes so abrubtly that it ruins the flight. Will Active Sky solve this? I would like to hear from anyone who has first hand expierience of this program.

Active Sky isn't just a fix, its a lot more.


It's a fully new WX utility which doesn't allow FS weather to break through.


So ya, AS is a great addon, I can recommend it.


Besides, the Graphics look awesome too!

I downloaded Active Sky this morning and did a short hop flight from Bristol to Exeter (UK).

Mees, does active sky hit frame rates as bad as FS9 weather? The default clouds really hit my FPS bad with more poor graphics card. I've downloaded some less graphically intensive clouds and that helps a bit.
Any advice appreciated.

I have Active sky and think it is the best thing I ever purchased. But as far as frame rates go as allways that depends upon your system. With Active sky you can select from many of different cloud types to depict the weather with from simple types to complex ones so if you do not like your first choice then you can allways change it. The one thing I like about it is the ablity to load ther weather for your fs 9 generated flight plan so it creates the weather for each waypoint along your flight path. And then there is the free active radar that you can use with any aircraft and you do not need to install any new panels. The clouds really do look life like and the weather really differs as you go from point to point just like in the real world. I give this program a five star rating. Oh and by the way it will work with FSx as well. 8-)

I have had a chance now to load an existing flight plan. A four hour fifteen minutes flight from Bristol (UK) to Larnaka (Cyprus). I flew this in real time. Before I would have upped the sim rate but the weather was too enjoyable! I have not noticed any appreciable hit on frame rates, it seems to perform simularly to 'Real Weather' FS setting, but even if there was a slighht performance hit, it would be worth it.

The weather on route involved quite a lot of clouds at times and as I was flying at 33,000' I increased my cloud draw distance to maximum, this had no effect on performance. What I enjoyed most was my approach to Larnaca where there was quite a lot of patchy low cloud which made the flying experience so much more exciting. Five stars from me also, will we have snow today? Hope so, I want to fly!

I am thinking of getting Active Sky. I am now running FS9. My question is; will I be able to transfer it to FSX, when and if I do upgrade to FSX?
