With an ILS approach and HUD on, how far out do the visuals start to appear?

I don't get it. Care to explain further what you mean? Do you talk about visibility? About graphics? What? ???

This is what I was referring to. It is listed under Aircraft as Visual flight path. In FS2002 it was only visible from the cockpit but in FSX it seems to be visible from a chase view also. Can be used with or without ILS. Good for practicing landings.

I found out by default, the range of nearly all Locallizer/ILS transmitters in FS9 is 27 nautical miles. These transmitters are located at the far end of any given runway, so if a runway is 10,000' long, you'll be closer to 25 NM from touchdown before you pick it up.

An add-on that makes visible a visual flight path in landing even to a non ILS airport? First time I hear it. ??? A link to this add-on would be appreciated.

Anyway at 27 nm out generally you can begin to receive only the LOC signal, while the GLIDE comes alive around 20 (I'm going by memory) depending mainly to the steepness of the glide-path (in FS, real world has other variables attached to it). The signal on the HUD in real world is dependent by the airport having a ILS, if the airport has no ILS, the HUD will remain blank. At the same time the signal on the HUD will be as much accurate as the ILS is. Meaning no CAT III landing on a CAT I ILS anyway.
