I MADE IT!

For the longest time Ive wanted to fly around the world.  Well, I finally did it.  34 hours and about 18000nm.  Started in SFO with a DC-8 and flew it to Boston, then took a KLM 777 to EHAM, then a Cathay 777 to VHHH, and finally last night I flew a United 777 back to KSFO.

I crosed 2 entire continents and 2 oceans, landed at 4 different airports, burned millions of dollars worth a fuel, and finaly realized my dream to fly around the world.  It was fun, Im probably gonna do it again

Expect some screenshots later....

Did you do it all in real time? I did my globe-girdling DC3 flight mostly at 16X, because it was over 200 hours, mostly over the ocean.

It's a satisfying accomplishment... :)

Hi Jake...!

Congratulations Mate...;D...!

You've done your share of enlarging the hole in the Ozone Layer and increasing Global Warming....

...now do it again, this time in a Glider...;)...!

LOL...;D...!

Paul...World Tour in my Cessna 150...;)...?

I took off and climbed to altitude in real time, then cruised at 16X, then took over when I was approximately 200 nm or so from my destination.

You cruised at 16X? My autopilot won't let me go over 4X. Did you cruise hands-on, then?

Now get a mate to fly with you on 1X and land in every country you pass bye, much more fun and no cheating.

A couple of years ago.. I did a "Great Lakes Lap"..

It was fun, because you can fly complete legs, real time.. with lots of scenery... And it IS a geographic accomplishment (though not on the order of globe circling).. and not as mundane, navigation-wise as like flying coast-to-coast.

Image

Just treat all five lakes as one REALLY big lake; and hug the coast (including every peninsula an bay).

The FS9 scenery was interesting enough. The list of things you'll see is too long for this post..but Niagara Falls, Toronto, Isle Royale and the Mackinac Bridge top the list. There are dozens (if not a hundred or more) little airports to discover... Several Islands and a whole host of other neat things.

Il definately grab a few legs out of that top hop around with my dad as a navigator, should be fun.

When doing long haul like I was doing theres no way Im gonna do it in 1X, 2 hops were more than 10 hours, one hop was 8, and one was 6.

My long distance flying in real time comes during SA tour...

I flew from St. John's to Calgary in realtime with a Kingair 350...stopped at a bunch of small airports to try my landing skills on short runways. (This is doing like one small piece a day mind you) I meant to go all the way to Vancouver...but then I discovered I could download planes...lol.

I'll have to see if I can get 16X out of my abacus EZ-GPS...

I tried it in Mike Stone's Cessna 404. At 16X, it roller-coasters up and down so bad it's not worth the effort. Lunch would definitley not stay down. At 8X, it's still pretty bad. It finally smooths out and flies right at old 4X...
