i downloaded a repaint for the default 747 so added this line to the aircraft.cfg to make it work

[fltsim.4]
title=Boeing 747-400
sim=Boeing747-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=bac
kb_checklists=Boeing747-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing747-400_ref
atc_id=N747
atc_airline=British airways cargo
atc_flight_number=1123
atc_heavy=1
atc_parking_types=CARGO
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type="747-400"
ui_variation="British airways cargo"
description="More than 30 years ago, the 747 made its first trip from New York to London.  Since then, it's become the standard by which other large passenger jets are judged. Its size, range, speed and capacity were then, and are now, the best in its class."

but it says it cant create that file. i've done this before for other aircraft. what have i typed wrong?
Thanks

Everything in your cfg seems in order. The only thing i noticed is that the default entries all have a differant "atc_id=". Yours is the same as  [fltsim.0]. I don't know if that could be it or not, but you could add a letter or something to it. If you could please post a link to this repaint i'll test it out. ;)

Change the title= line to
title=Boeing 747-400 Paint 4

or any name you like providing it's different to the others.

no still says cannot create that file, before i even try and check it in the game. which i assume it means edit it as it isnt being created. has it got anything to do with file permissions perhaps. any further ideas.

Say filename?
There are those here who will actually d/l the file and take a look at it.
The title= was a good place to start as FS will not recognize planes with the same name. The title= in your post is already in use by FS9.

i know this sounds like i havent tried to find it but i've tried every search term on simv and cant find it and i know i got it here so i simply put the file name here so that people can find it if they wish. i will keep searching in the meantime.

file required = Boeing_747_BACargo.zip

I think it may be the one on page 108 of civil jets 2004 :)
If you do a search on; BA cargo 747 you should find it.

Thanks for the link

I d/l and installed the default textures using the aircraft.cfg data included and it worked just fine. Ah, but you're asking: "Does he have a screenshot-to-prove-it?"

May I suggest using the aircraft.cfg data included in the d/l and sequentially renumbering it. I also checked each texture using Martin Wright's DXTbmp and they are perfect DXT3 .BMP Extended file format.

whoops forgot that data provided in the download. must have missed it. *goes to find*

when i save the update, it still has an issue saving the .cfg file for it.

Just a thought. Right-click on that Aircraft.cfg & select Properties. Make sure the file has not been configured as Read-only. If it has you won't be able to edit it. You can change it by unchecking the option.
