the only thing Microsoft can offer from the crash report is to install the 9.1 update which I already have, as if the system has never registered the update. Anyone know where on the screen I can see what version I am running?
Start FS9 & click Help/About on the menu bar. If you installed the update it should read Version 9.1.
Also Doug, I have tried the manual scenery load. Have copied the folders for the Kidlington Airport scenery to my scenery and texture folders but could you please run through how I manually activate it via the scenery.cfg file. What do I need to alter?
There's several methods of doing this.
The easiest would be to paste the BGL files into Addon Scenery\scenery & textures into Addon Scenery\texture. The Addon Scenery folder itself should be activated by default so the new files will be loaded the next time you start FS9. The biggest drawbacks are that the files will soon get mixed up & you have no control over the layer priority.
A better method is to add each new area separately in the conventional way. Most addon scenery comes already configured in a master folder containing Scenery & Texture subfolders. Let's suppose this folder is named Hagar Island. To install the new area paste the Hagar Island folder into the FS9\Addon Scenery folder. To activate it you will need to edit Scenery.cfg. (Make a backup copy of Scenery.cfg first in case of mistakes.)
Open it in Notepad & scroll to the bottom of the text. Now copy the last entry & paste it below itself. The last default entry is the Addon Scenery folder itself. The new entry is the part in blue in the following example.
[Area.038]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=Addon Scenery
Layer=38
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=
[Area.039]
Title=Hagar Island
Local=Addon Scenery\Hagar Island
Layer=39
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=This is the important part so please do it carefully. First renumber the new [Area.xxx] & Layer= entries to the next in sequence. The new Title= entry is the name that will display on the new menu entry in FS9. This can be almost anything you like but must be different to all other area names. The Local= entry is the exact path to the Hagar Island folder you installed in the Addon Scenery folder so FS9 can find it.
Exit Notepad saving changes. Now go & try it in FS9.
PS. Whichever method you use I suggest pasting any AFCAD BGL files into Addon Scenery\scenery.
