FSUIPC Is it needed to play fs9?

Hi all,
just wondered if you need this file, as i keep getting error messages involving it. I've read a bit about it and i think its used for other programs communicating with fs9.

Latest error told me to consult fsuip log. So i did.

201375 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fs9.exe

It's not needed to use FS9.

However some addons require it so that parts of them can communicate with FS9, any that do will probably tell you in the readme and some require a free key to register them with the FSUIPC module. I would suggest downloading and installing it ...... you don't have to pay for the module just to unlock the payware features ...... if you don't want them don't pay.

I would think that the DC10 probably has a gauge that requires FSUIPC.

Thanx alot for that.
I didn't know there was a key you could download.
I'll have a look for it.

I'm still not clear about this.
Had a look at the readme file that came with the DC 10, and its got written that it does not need FSUIPC.
Just don't get this fsuipc thing at all.
I mean is there a freeware version of it or not?
one that you can register free?
Scratchin head here.

Oh, i've taken it out for the moment. But something put it there, and i'll probably find out that i do need it for something somewhere along the line.
Commercial addons i have are,
A340 pro by just flight
UK 2000 Manchester scenery.
Thanx
Ste.

What you are seeing in the log enty is an attempt by a gauge or module to use an unsupported method to access FSUIPC.  The method attempted has not been supported for gauges or modules in 3 or 4 years.
The variable being read (at address 0B80) is a fuel variable, if that helps at all.
The only remedy here is to find the offending gauge and replace it with something better.

Most designers will let you know if you need to register a panel or gauge with fsuipc and will provide the key you need to use it with. I can think of at least one airbus That needed to be registered with fsuipc and the author provided the key along with instructions on how to register it with fsuipc.
But FSUIPC is not a needed requirement to use FS2004 or FSX
But like everyone else has stated some gauges need it in order to work correctly usually any RADAR or TCAS gauges will need FSUIPC in order to work. (TCAS = TRAFFIC COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM) 8)

Just as a sidebar: Lee Hetherington's TCAS gauge doesn't need FSUIPC to work (although it can use it). It uses the alternative TrafficInfo module that's supplied with it.
