ERROR when loading scenery

Postby aReyoUIn86 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 10:53 am

What's it mean by "Scenery read error. Attempting to open a nonexistent directory"?

It's trying to access a scenery area that is no longer there. It should give you the name of the problem scenery in the error message. As you just reinstalled FS9 you might need to deactivate the missing 3rd party scenery from the Scenery Library.

I don't quite understand what you mean by that, can you explain in a more easy context.

If you installed any 3rd party scenery you should have activated it via the FS9 Scenery Library. I assume your problem is caused by deleting the files when you reinstalled FS9. You could fix the error by either deleting the missing scenery area from the Scenery Library or reinstalling it if you still have the files.

PS. Read my FS2004 Scenery Clinic from the Grumpy's Lair link in my sig.

It should tell you the name of the missing file. one way you can fix this is to delete the scenery cfg file found in the root directory of FS. FS wil rebuild the default scenery the next time you run it.
All you have to do will be to reactivate any addon scenery you have.
DO NOT DELETE THE SCENERY CFG FILE WHILE FS IS RUNNING Just open the fsfolder and scrool down till you find the scenery.cfg file and either rename it to scenery.bak or delete it completly. Either way will work. 8)

Have you actually tried that Gary?

It might work for fs9.cfg but NOT Scenery.cfg.

You have to rember that when you first install fs the first thing it does is to make the scenery cfg file.  And it worked for me but I did not completly remove it now that I think of it all I did was to remove the ADDON scenery entries.
