Progressive Taxi

Does Anyone actually use charts to navigate around airport taxiways? Or just look at the Taxiway signs?

Usually in the airports Unknown for me,but the one i use to hang never  :-/ ,but IRL I have heard foreing planes in my local airport (I used to spend a lot of time there) asking instructions were to park ,and folow by tower aproach control instruction ,Is normal..I think

with FS2002, I have to use it.

That, or get out a real map of the airport to ifnd the taxi way names.

im more of a casual airline flyer, i let Flight sim find my route, and i use those purple lines to find my parking space. I rarely spend the time to find charts beacuse i usually dont know my arrival airport till 2 min before the flight.  ;D

I 'd rather have the maximum adherence to reality possible while in the air, than on the tarmac. Planes are made to fly, after all, taxi is only the lesser of their duties.

Seen that a follow-me car in FS does not exist, then progressive taxi works for me, when I fly big irons. When I fly GA on the other hand, I prefer to keep away from big and complex airports, and in a simple airport watching around carefully (or at the very least using CTRL-S) is enough to get my bearings.

If it's a biggy like Heathrow one has to use airfield charts. Heathrow has taxiway designations plus the whole airfield is divided into blocks. For example "Speed Bird 007 vacate runway at block 83" I don't believe there is a version of Heathrow with block numbers. There was one in FlyII  !!!

Paris CDG is nothing short of a nightmare when it come to taxiing. And, Amsterdam Schippol!!

The only time i don't use progressive taxi is for airports i have created myself, and even then i sometimes need it. When you have lots of taxiways, you need progressive taxi.

If I dont know where Im going, then I use progressive taxi.  But if Im at a familiar airport, I dont need it, or if Im at an amazing airport (like FlyTampa stuff) the signs and such are good enough that I dont need it

..mmm well I use progressive taxi on the rare occasions I fly anything bigger than my old beat up c72.........but mostly I blunder around accross the grass or taxiways 'til I feel safe enough to park up...............like I do in Morrison's car park of a Saturday morning really..............commoner

Paris CDG is nothing short of a nightmare when it come to taxiing. And, Amsterdam Schippol!!

While I've never been in Amsterdam (neither in the sim nor for real, sadly enough) I still remember the memorable taxi I had to get through that one time I landed my 727 in CGD coming from Heathrow.

How could I ever forget that it took more time taxiing than the total flight time. I do really hope that in real life CDG is just a little less... nightmarish alright.

You've mede me curious. As soon as the new power supplier (that should be here tomorrow [I hope] the Gods willing) is installed, I'm going to see if Schippol really is up to par with CDG.

I just look at my FS Navigator airport lay out to spot the fuel pumps or parking places, and then just quietly lumber across the grass in a straight line to reach them....*

Air Traffic Control has no say whatsoever in the matter......!

Somtimes use the terminal charts that I have...... check out getting old charts from a real pilot...... they go outdated fast.  FINE for sim use though.

if flying with built in ATC... I write down the instructions befopre the readback...and follow the signs in the sim.

If in a hurry and just kicking about....... just taxi to wherever.

If I'm in a fighter, I just roar over the grass, and slide into my parking slot (Always arrive in style! )

(and if the parking spot is at the other side of the airport, I usually just takeoff, and fly low over the aircrafts, and land when I arrive! (I don't have time to wait in a queue!!)

I only use it when i'm at an airport I have no charts for. I have a useless memory, so I can rarely remember the taxiways ATC tells me to take  :-/ When I have charts I use them. I picked up a 2001 Pooleys Flight guide UK from rcsimulations.com for 8 quid  8) Very useful!
