Semi transparent aircraft.

I have recently installed a new aircraft, and now every aircraft I have is see-through. I have gotten rid of the new aircraft, but it doesn't help. Any ideas?

Is that when you look from certain angles or what? Is it in the sim or just the presentation box (where the plane goes round). I sometimes get the inside/out effect if I get too close to some add-on planes and swivel round.

I'm surprised that you have got it on all aircraft though. ???

Also Ben perhaps Praha erase accidentaly the file envmap.bmp wich should be inside of the main texture folder of the flight simulator 9 ,if it isn't the planes will be shown as semi transparency, also some video card make this morfology is they use FSX demo ,they will show all this old fs9 planes as semitransparent in the demo of FS10 ,so check it out praha and see if you have that file inside of fs9 or you trying to use fsx with old planes

...mm.....you have corrected the problem but maybe not for the totally correct reason.............if you had gone to Settings/Display/Aircraft and unchecked the REFLECTIONS box, that would have corrected the transparent A/C "problem" without using envmap.bmp.

Envmap.bmp controls the reflection effect in "metallic" textures, so even if you don't have it in your texture folder you will not have a problem with transparent aircraft unless you have selected Reflections in the settings. Try it for yourself......take it out and then uncheck reflections and you will see what I mean. Obviously it is better to have it in there but just thought you guys might like to know what it does.

BTW I think there is that transparancy problem in the FSX  Beta so if you find that is so.........use the envmap.bmp from FS9.

.........Hope some of you find that interesting. .....commoner ;D

Surely the question is: why was envmap.bmp missing in the first place? It's not something you would delete, either deliberately or by accident. I suspect it was deleted by uninstalling an addon of some kind. Please be careful when using these automatic uninstallers.

I'm glad you fixed it. ;)

...you are right.....uninstallers are dangerous as are installers..........just pointing out why the file is there in the first place.........maybe he never had it from the start for some reason and the installer switched on reflections somehow..............we shall never know..but if he could let us know which exactly was the aircraft he installed..then maybe we could find out..........

Re: Semi transparent aircraft.The 737 Experience b

The aircraft in question was The 737 Experience by Moach v1.2 http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets84.htm with the Ryanair textures, http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets142.htm. The author of the Ryanair textures states "I have made alot of modifications and additions to the textures, and added alot of detail in part to give it a more weather look." Could this have something to do with it? Neither download used an installer/uninstaller.

Or any other reason ,But Never could be any of the moach planes...

Agree with Alrot and have just downloaded the plane you gave and can see nothing to cause the problem you have had..............put it down to "just one of those things" and remember anything you have learnt for future reference.............. commoner ;D

I'm not certain that it was Moachs' 737, and yes I agree he does excellent work. It's just that the 737 experience was the last plane I installed before I had the see-through problem. It may just have conflicted with something I had in my system already, or some such freak occurance.

Anyway, now that I know how to fix the problem should it happen again, I'm going to download it again 'cos it is a cool aircraft.

Bear in mind in future when installing a new aircraft, ALWAYS extract it to a temp folder before adding it  to the aircraft folder. That way you can see what files are going to be added and where they end up. Then simply copy them into the appropriate folders. if any files look out of place check with someone before adding them to the FS9 folder to prevent possible conflict.
