editing smoke effects...

Postby FSGT Gabe » Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:07 am

Hey guys, I've searched far and wide for a tutorial on how to create/edit smoke effects, but never found one.  I'm not talking about moving the emitter around on the aircraft (I know that...that's simple ::) ).  I'm trying to edit the actual characteristics of the smoke.

Ok...here's what I want.  I'm trying to create a realistic effect for the Snowbirds (yes, I'm Canadian).  Don't know if any of you have ever seen them, but their smoke is quite condensed, spreads out very quickly, and disippates MUCH faster than the smoke in FS.

I downloaded a file called smokesys.zip (I believe is was from flightsim.com but it may be here at the V as well...).  It has very nice dense smoke, but the smoke stays in a very thin trail and does not disappear for a long time.

What I'm wondering is if someone can tell me how to edit a smoke system to really spread out...not stay very thin...and disippate quickly.

Help is MUCH appreciated.  Thanks alot! ;D ;D

My best-guess is it's modelled into the FSX file. I use Nick's Smoke on my flyable and AI aircraft. Thx to Nick for his FREEbes

You can open a smoke effect file with Notepad and maybe experiment by changing some of what you see.  I know how to change the color, other aspects didn't work too well, and some of the terminology inside the file is pretty vague, but it won't hurt anything to try.  Let us know if you figure anything out.
