Hey Guys and Ladies,  Always so nice to get the time to say "Hi and a good morning" to such a nice bunch of people.   You're always so helpful to me.    This is sorta in answer to "Paul" and so others can see what I'm using to better help me in my questions.  
     I'm not very PC literate and struggle at times with the basics.  I do a lot of reading on this "Sim" topics and try to be "teachable" - -the reason for the questions.
     My PC "specks" are  :  
         One old [2002] slowpoke Gateway  w/ many Gremlins and other critters that enjoy messing with me.    [sounds like yours - - huh ?    ;D ]
           Microsoft Windows XP home Edition.
           Version 5.1.26 Ser Pack 2 build 2600.
           Model E-200
           Processor  X86 Family 15/model 2 stepping 4
           Gen Intel ~1799 Mhz
           RAM [unkown type]  768.00mb

           FS9
           Real Scene U.S.Terrain and Landclass Scenery2004 edition.

           FS Autostart [ not sure of my settings yet]
           Plus I ALWAYS defrag  just before loading FS9 .
           Also --- I land on a beach /water / anywhere for a nature call every 45-60 min and  Re-boot and start over again- - but where I landed the last time. This is so I can regain my RAM and to un-clutter the "old" scenery files.

 
   
    I'm sure I've left out many things.  I'm trying to get one or two of my old ultralights to "work" in this Sim w/o much luck so far.  Two are older than me and need reworking in order to fly right.[This month- - I'm 72]  ;D


     Appreciate your help if after reading this mess - - - you can suggest what else I can do [other than evicting the "gremlins and other critters".    Sorta use to them  ;D

The key to getting rid of all those gremlins is dumping all the "free" software downloads.  My Dad always uses so-called "freeware" and has endless troubles with his computer, and he's very tech-saavy.

That's not to say free FS9 addons are bad.  In fact I've yet to find one free FS9 addon which was anything other than what it claimed to be.

The problem is all that "free" softare you download from various sites on the web.  It's never free.  Often it loads up spyware or adware which turns even the best system in to an unreliable dog.  And lots of this stuff flies under the radar of the free spyware and adware programs since they themselves often overlook certain things (as they too sometimes add spyware and adware to your computer).

If you've never downloaded free software and still have problems then it could be hardware related.  Unfortunately I can't make heads or tails from your hardware description.

   Thanks for the advice.  I try to keep as much "stuff" as possible out of the PC.  I save the "stuff" on DVDs.  Before flying - -  I kill and close everything I can and still be able to run the Sim.   I search for junk always to remove it.    
   
   I  do fly low and slow and get no "stutters or slow scenery loading".    Do you know of some other program that would search out the "junk" ?       caveman

You are struggling with your "old" computer, especially running processor and graphics intensive program like FS 2004.... ...!

My one runs fine with my specs, (and 768 MB of RAM), with everything "Maxed", (specs below, home-built), but I did have to upgrade it some years ago, from a Pentium 486 DX100 processor, and a 2MB, 2D graphics card...LOL...!

Hey Paul,     Hope all's well.  Do you have "Misty Fjords"  and if you do - - - what are your thoughts concerning it ?  How about you other Guys and Ladies ?       I'm thinking about getting it but would appreciate some input .

I've got the Misty Fjords package and I love it. It's been my virtual home ever since I installed it

Most of the time, there isn't a noticeable hit on frame rates with my system, but I'm not sure how it would run on your system.

I've got the "Misty Fjords" Bush Flying packages from Avsim...

It's so bleedin' cold in Alaska that I have to keep legging-it back to Sunny California all the time...!

It works fine on my set-up...no frame-rate hits...!
(I use the similar LAGO Scenery Enhancer program to populate all of my airfields in California, very little effect on frame rates)... ...!

Alaska is far away from where I live

As far as the cold is concerned, Believe it or not, I actually hate the cold, but it's not so bad when i'm flying in Alaska on the computer when the house is warm. That I can tolerate

Hey Guys - -Thanks for the input.   "ME"- - HARDCORE  ;D
  I also defrag every 45 - 60  min   or  I  start seeing exciting things like disappearing wings , mountains , etc.  
  I know I struggle somewhat with my PC but I try to keep my cave warm in the winter and an extra dinosaur steak on the fire.  Not "hardcore" just enjoyment .   Most are not that sure if their PC will even start-up - -just a challenge among so many.

I do the adaware,cookie crunch,defrag bit all the time.

I've got a registry cleaner and I've just done a format(nothing like cleaning out the lot)

I must be a fanatic (or insane__or___??)

         I really didn't tell all of what I do before I load-up the Sim.  Now I don't feel bad at all.  You Guys cheer me up w/o even trying.   I'm forever telling my PC what's going to happen if it pulls just one more of "them dumb stunts".      I feel "right at home"  with you guys.       Have a nice day - - caveman
