Hi, all.
You may have noticed some of my other topics over time regarding panels. Anyway thanks so much for all of your help it has now paid off and I have been able to make a shiny new 737NG panel (now in late beta stage).

HUDs are for quick and simple reference during highly VFR flight with little time to check instruments, why on earth would you need them on a passenger airliner which are IFR so much of the time and fly a large percentage of their flights when VFR conditions dont exist? Also, they go much slower and have pre-planned routes, they have time to spare for checking primary flight data, as opposed to in an F-16 at mach one.

Waste of money those HUDS if you ask me, and Boeing are contradicting themselves. Yes, go ahead remove the brow windows for the 737 as instrument flight has lessened the need for VFR flight, but then put a HUD and in effect claim the opposite.

Anyways, I still love you Boeing! (although Airbus is my true love)

Hi Giles - I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that good-looking panel. Plenty of visibility out of the windows. It'll be a good match for the G-Planes BBJ.  ;)

Very nice, can't see the point of the HUD either but so long as you can turn it off, doesn't matter.

Yep you can easily turn off the hud. I will upload a pic later of the panel with the hud turnd off.

Looks good so far.  I also admire that you are undertaking the great task of a working FMC for a down the road edition.  Sign me up :-)   I'll be more than glad to help you with testing as your different updates come out. Maybe a freeware PMDG quality work can arise down the road.  If you can pull that off, you will be in the pantheon with Milton Shupe, Richard Probst, George Carty, and other FS programing gods.  ;D

 Have any of you read any of the "Flying"  reviews on the Gulfstream G350,450, and 550 equipped with planeview and yes, a hud?  Very favorable.  The huds with EVS are capable of a lot more than what the FAA is so far willing to certify them for.  In fact, I don't even know if FS would support EVS emulation on a hud.  It would be quite a vid card tasking to map a clear daylike texture on one specific area of the panel regardless of the day/night and weather conditions.  But, in real life, I can see great value in airliners being equipped with these.  IFR is great and safe but there's nothing like being able to back up your magentas with the nav equippment God gave you, your own eyeballs  8)

Nono. You have completely misunderstood the purpose of a head-up-display. The HUD allows the pilots to fly low visibility approaches without using the autopilot. The Boeing 737 HUD, also consists of additional guidance raw material, like localizer and glide slope.  

To further dig deeper into the subject: the HUD in the 737 is driven by it's own FGC (flight guidance computer), which means that you cant couple the AP to the HUD. In other words you hand fly CATII landings. So again, please tell me how a HUD is VFR related?

Ask American Airlines if they think the HUD is a waste of money. Their 738's doesnt have the "rollout" mode in their AFDS, which renders their 738's unable to autoland. Solution: install a HUD instead.  :)

And to the panel designer. A fuel dump switch? The 737 doesn't even have  fuel dump ability to begin with, so skip it.  :)

Hi, All.
Yesterday I put the final gauge on the panel and now all I am doing is testing it before uploading. I finished the overhead panel (see screenshot) which is 70% functional with the main functions working. (Full switches, cross feed, seat belts, hydraulics, APU switches, power settings ect.)All the fetures are clearly labled. Also I put in a "mini panel" (see screenshot) so that you can easily taxi and land the aircraft should you need a bit more visibility. Thanks for your comments also I was reading over your posts about the HUD, Does anyone even want a HUD as I can remove it so then it will cut down on file size.
