you could modify the aircraft so that its top speed higher...

but if you do that then whats the point of playing a flight "simulator".  Shouldn't you be on xwing?

Many people think that 'oh, it's showing overspeed at 250 kts, that's slow'. Well, if you're at 25.000 ft, it's not! Remember, the indicated airspeed will drop the higher you go.

Good advice here . . . for me, simulate means replicate and speed-control is a part of the (training) experience. Perhaps it's more-real for us realworld pilots -- "Your call, captain."

there is a line for instance I don't see that flying with ATC is nessacerry if your just trying to relax on Fs2004 as it's constantly bugging you and getting in the way of your flying.  But I would always try and get aircraft to behave as realisticly as posible because otherwise what would be the point of having more than one aircraft? as you could modify them all to have perfect flying characeristics and they would all fly the same.  The challenge and a godo part of the fun for me with fs is how differently each plane flys.  On the other hand it's your game and you may put the line somewhere else, (as I'm sure some people think I'm terible for not always flying with atc) and modifying aircraft to have unrealistic flying characteristics may be your thing.

If you just want to get rid of an overspeed alarm (hey mabey you like flying on the edge) then you just need to delete the relevant lines of the sound.cfg file

for example:

[EXIT_CLOSE]
filename=doorclose
flags=0
viewpoint=1

if I deleted this I would no longer have a sound play when I closed the door on my chinook.

let the flaming ensue  :P

I would assume that most real world aircraft have an alarm silence button somewhere.  Why would one want to silence the overspeed?  Well, let's say you're trying to air race from LA to San Diego in the Lear.  You'll probably want to fly just over the max rated speed for the aircraft.  Not something you'd want to do in real life but that's why it's a "simulator" and not a "real-ulater"  right?  And who wants to listen to that annoying overspeed klaxon the whole time?

open the aircraft.cfg file and look for something like this

[Reference Speeds]
flaps_up_stall_speed

When i was a "crazy" pilot, i was so sick of the overspeed alarm i just went to cockpit sounds under the options and set it to 0.  It was a bit of a disadvantage, because i didn't get any of the other cockpit sounds... :(

ok so you dont want the over speed sound and you dont want to edit all those cfg's...  find the overspeed sound file in sounds folder and delete it ;D i did that alot in CFS  (i was like 12 i dident know what i was doin lol)
