At the moment, I only fly IFR, but on the rare GA flight when I fly VFR, I don't use any gauges other than speed, alt, fuel, and fuel usage, and the compass for entering the pattern. I look at the land around me to make sure I'm going where I want to be.

In the sim I rarely fly VOR "only", but that's because I fly airliners which have their own GPS/Inertial NAV systems

However in the real world I have to fly VOR-VOR because I don't have a certified GPS installed yet  ;D

For heavies (PSS 777 and PMDG 747) I use the FMC.

For a Cessna 172, I just get in and fly VFR ;)

I have loads of fun with my radios, so together with contacting Air Traffic Control, and with my FS Navigator program I file my flight plans between VOR's and NDB's, and fly VFR in small General Aviation aircraft... ;D...!

This may assist in learning a little about radio navigation...>>>

I fly mostly VFR, unless of course the tower has VFR traffic grounded, and they will do that.  I fly real weather.  I also have ordered quite a number of charts from the Jeppeson website for areas I enjoy flying in.  I enjoy matching the FS world with real flight charts(pretty accurate) I might add.  I do use the NavAids on the rare occasion weather is IFR and I still want to fly I will file IFR plan..

AGrr I forgot to mention The GSP way

In my Opinion The knowledge of all this thing are very important for those who love this Flight Sims world ,.Flying by instruments, and got skills In VOR,IFR,and even GPS is everything in aeronautical naviation(I respect the guys who fly just for fun,of course),Once I asked here how different is FS9 with real Aviation,I got a very and absolutely NO as an answer by some fellows they claim that FS9 is JUst a Game or something like it...Now I can tell you ,.it isn't totaly truth,I being spending a lot of time in my local airport in my city,I meet many comertial pilots from ACERCA,AEROPOSTAL airlines (DC-9,737,757,767,dc-10,md-80, ETC), who even use Believe or not,. FS9 in their places,Most of the flights have a routes a highways in the sky,here in my country we use VOR/DME for all the trafic,around,and sometimes from maiquetia navigation center IFR...Recenly y got a navigation chart(Jeppeson),i brought it from the tower SVVA If you may take a look to see what im talking aboutRight hereI sat In a c citation a week ago, i hope i can fly this weekend(tomorrow) in the cockpit as a

Alrot, to some extent, FS9 can be used as a valuable learning tool for aspiring pilots (I know I had great use of it when I studied to become one), but FS also lacks realistic flight dynamics and has some serious flaws in the physics of flying.

But like you said, every VOR freq is correct, the airways are corresponding to real world counterparts (although the Navdata is some 5years old in FS9).

In my opinion FS9 is a game (but a very useful one). You can't ask that a 30dollar simulator can depict how flying in the real world is.

.... And thanks Paul (FOZZER)to be and give us an example to our fellows, the way it should be " The fans of Flight Simulator 2004 And FS X"..

Thanks ALROT...;D...!

   *  Aviation Law
   * Meteorology
   * Navigation
   * Aircraft General
   * Aircraft Technical
   * Human Performance and limitations
   * Radio-telephony

I have practiced all of the above over the past six years on the various Flight Simulators...
..and it came in very useful for my flights in the REAL aircraft, (Cessna 152 Trainer)...... >:(...!

You will need to perfect, and pass, all of the above requirements before you will get your Pilots Licence....
...trust me...;)...!

Radio-telephony is vital to prevent you from getting your licence revoked for evading ATC instructions...!!!
...a typical example is the "Transponder"...ATC need to know that you are in in the air, and whereabouts you are...
;)... :o...!

Cheers all...!

Practise your radios to keep your Licence...;)...!
...and...
Learn "Meteorology" to save your life... :o...!

Paul... avoiding CumuloNimbus cloud formations...8)...!

You also right Nexus;i can denied about the issue of flight dynamics i hate to admited but wich even Im not pilot but Im very aware of it BTW,It was you who make me noticed that,If you remember ...Im just trying to make them feel more interest in navigational instruments freq vor,squad,and stuff,who knows many of this young boys got inspired and perhaps theyll become our futures pilots cause fs9 like you did
