Sparks and Smoke

Postby Bubblehead » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:58 pm

I have two downoaded aircrafts, a POSKY CRJ 200ER and  Posky B747-406 which when airborne track a grayish smoke and what seem to look like redish sparks coming out of the read section of the aircraft. Although the plane seem to fly OK the smoke and the sparks make the craft look like it was hit with a missile or something. Of the couple of hundred downloaded I have, these were the only two unusual. Anyone got any ideas why? I'd like to get rid of these phenomenon.

You over-rotated on take off and had a tailstrike.

Look in the aircraft.cfg in the [SMOKE] and/or [EFFECTS] part to see if the (offending) code can be identified.

In the aircraft.cfg file, under [EFFECTS] , make the change as shown to concrete=fx_sparks.

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1
concrete=fx_sparks

Then you can scrape your tail all you want and noboby will ever know.

A more realistic solution is to wait a little longer, get 10-15kts more before rotating, and pull the stick back GENTLY. You should take off before the tail hits the ground, thus no more sparks.

Gentlemen: I did not say that the smoke and sparks occur during takeoff. I see it from an outside view of the aircraft at cruising altitude.

Hence after you tookoff, and after your tailstrike.

Next time you get this, do an instant replay and watch your take off from the rear in spot view. I guarantee these chaps are right and that you had a tailstrike.

Sad I know, but I've put the Posky tailstrike effects into other planes also! Breeds good rotation habits.

Microflight, I've also added the POSKY tailstrike to most of my commercial aircraft because, as you said, it develops good takeoff/rotation habits.  But, as I like to watch the rotation and unstick sequence from spot view sometimes I'm not sure if I had a tail strike or just a near miss.  The sparks and smoke just let me know when I should pay a bit more attention to my flying and less to my gawking.

Although I personally love POSKY's planes, I hate that effect...If I am abot to embark on a long journey which I seldom do, I hate to see those sparks come on...even though I did a perfect rotation at the ideal speed, proper trim, flaps set, etc...I just remove the effect prior to installing my aircraft... ;)

I agree with you;  I've aborted many a flight and started over because I didn't want to make a flight with sparks and smoke a' trailin'. >:(

Still, I like the option.  Except that I don't remember which aircraft have the effect and which do not.  Since I don't look at the config file before I load a flight, sometimes I find out the hard way.

Cheers,

Agreed . . . but, the effects or smoke are being generated by computer coding (not coming from the ethos); thus, find the code (as outlined in this thread) remove the code and the unwanted effects or smoke will not appear.

Gee, did I state that clearly enough?
