Taxiing Effect

A few months ago there was a file someplace that changed a .cfg file, and made taxiing effects more realistic. I got a new computer and wasnt able to save anything off of my old one, and I tried searching for the file with no luck. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

What you want is the Sim1.dll mod. I think that you can find it at Avsim.
If not PM me with an email address and I can send it to you. It is only about 500kb

On 5 Oct 05, Midnight_LS1 posted a topic that addressed "Real like taxi feel, here's how to!"

He noted that FS9 sets the ground friction to .5, which needs considerable power to get it rolling.  Aeronautical engineers have shown that the real world friction is .25 value.
He suggested downloading from http://82.176.145.29/files/sim1.zip.  Unzip the sim1.zip file, go to the modules folder in your FS9 dictionary, move the default sim1.dll file to a safe location (not the dictionary) and copy the new sim1.dll file from the downloaded file into the modules folder.

It worked for me....

I downloaded the dll file, but with no instructions on how to install it.
I know it goes in rh cfg file , but where?  and do you replace another file?

Go to your Flight Simulator 9 folder, in there you will find a Modules folder, and in there you will find the sim1.dll file, and yes there is a sim1.dll file already in there, make sure you back it up before you install the new one, in case you want to revert back to the original one, just simply rename it, in this case I would rename the original one sim1.dll.bak, that way it doesnt overwrite the original, just in case you dont like the new one and wish to go back to the original... ;D

I'm intreeged, what does this thing actualy do then, make it harder to roll? And if so, does it cure the 'roll forward with park brake on' problem?

For me it makes the plane easier to roll; you have to apply less power to roll and keep rolling. I don't know if it solves the parking brake thing, I haven't tried it and I don't have time to at the moment.

No, it does the opposite. As in real life, much of this sim is a compromise. If you reduce the 'friction' level you will have an even worse problem than before with turboprops (and others) moving forward with the brakes on.

You will also find that on landing, for example, aircraft are very unrealistically skittish and many single light planes become difficult (and eg the P51, Yungmann etc almost impossible) to take off and remain on the runway. For me these were too high a price to pay for something that is really a non-problem so I tried the file and deleted it pretty quickly.

It's all a matter of what we prefer individually - that's one of the beauties of this system ;)
