Hi all.....

Just a quickee...

Do any tips for touchdown, cause every time i get rough landing, in fspassengers and cant keep the aircraft on the ground.  Its really annoying me.  I usually touch down approx 140 kts, flaps 30 speed and autobrakes set??

Please help!!

the 737 has a tendecy to bounce if you touch down too fast... i built up a lot of 737 time while making the Experience and i noticed that if you dont give it time to "bleed off the ground effect" it tends to come back up...

a few tips:

arm you autospoilers before landing (shift+/ by default) so they deploy automatically as the main gears touch the runway...

140kts is the approach speed but you should try to land at about 130

if you got a long runway, you can do the landing with flaps 25

lastly, do not overflare this plane, pulling the nose just about 2-3 degrees up is usually enough because the "floating" caused by ground effect does most of the flaring for you ;)

happy landings 8)

Sounds like you're not flaring properly. See if this helps? As it happens, it's based on the 737 :-

umm, i reckon, with the flaps like that, youll bounce way too much,

try:

aiming at the runway at 120 knts

just before hitting the ground with the front tire add reverse trust

full flaps

no power

lower the nose at 90 knts

Fly the approach with a 3 degree upward pitch.
When crossing the threshold (usually at 50' RA) gently pull the nose up to 5-6degrees and SLOWLY close the throttles. The throttle levers should hit idle as you touchdown and apply reverse thrust. This will ensure that you wont hit the runway at an excessive vertical speed rate (>300ft min)

In case you want to see how it's done

There are downloadble checks and POH's for many different aircraft around the file libraries.  Also, check your fuel load as well, that will determine what approach speed you need to look for.  For my own experience, I do this.  I try to go by the POH if I have one for the aircraft I'm flying.  I study them thoroughly for a week or so before I even set up to do a pattern flight let alone a revenue flight.  Even going by the numbers though I use a little bit of seat of the pants as much as possible on a motionless sim. Here it is.  As long as I can maintain 700 fpm drop down the slope I throttle  back as slow as I can.  I've come in many times on different planes 10-15 kts. slower than the POH dictated I should for my wieght and flap selection.  I think you're coming in too hot.  I agree with machine man.  Also, use the runway elevation + 3000 formula.  Try to be there at least 10 NM out and 200 kts. or slower if possible.  If you can find approach plates for the airports you frequent, you will be able to go by the fixes and altitudes on them.  Follow those and try to have your speed bled off in advance and you'll be right on the money.  If you have your flap setting correct you will have a blance and be able to maintain the 3 degree nose up AND control your descent with your throttles.  Follow your vertical pip on your hsi.  It goes high, crack the the throttle but gently though until you get centered, it drops, pull em back till you get it centered.  A good approach set up should be like that and you should'nt have to use your yoke or stick at all during approach.

I like the way a 727 touches down.  LOL, they are much more of a thud than a bounce if you come in too hot  8) .

You have spoken some wisdom in that Nexus.  While I can use the throttles to manage my descent it is necessary to be able to anticipate quite a bit.  I have on occasions overcompensated my sink rate and ended up halfway down the runway on touchdown.  Fortunatly it was at KMDT which has a very long runway, 10,800 FT since the last improvement.   Other times I touched down hard on the end marker lights.  It takes a bit of practice and knowing the aircraft that way.

I've read threads regarding landing the default B734 since FS9 came out (30 months ago). The default B734 is the easiest of all FS9 planes to land: Once in the slot, simply incrementally decrease the speed to 120kias (gear down/flaps full) at the Inner Marker; it lands itself.

Perhaps; but there's a big difference between just having an aircraft change from flying to rolling and a good, proper landing. A lot of people prefer to do things as correct as possible - in my case; I can get just about anything down anywhere, that's no problem. The challenge is doing it while following proper 'real-world' procedure - easy enough in GA but a huge challenge in airliners - something totally outside my scope of RL experience. :)
Also keep in mind that while landing the 737 is easy to us; to a newcomer it's still frightfully difficult - we take many things on habit that they must learn firsthand.
:)
(P.S. - IMO the easiest of the default planes to land is the 172. It is a primary trainer, after all. ;D )

Gary, to further elaborate on the subject.
Last week my teacher said something interesting regarding the throttles on a jet aircraft, specificly the differing thrust output per inch of thrust lever movement.

Dont remember which aircraft this is true for but anyway. He said that at low rpm (near idle), a 1 inch movement of the thrust lever could produce only 600lb of thrust. But at high RPM (near N1 max) a 1 inch movement of the thrust lever coult typically produce 6000lb of thrust.  :)
