Mirage 2000N download control problem

Postby gary1701 » Sat Dec 31, 2005 6:14 pm

Hello,

My apologises in advance if this sounds like a silly newbie question but really have to ask now. Only had FS2004 a month now and am amazed at the scope of the add-ons available. Have downloaded the Mirage 2000N files from page 78/79 of the military section on this site and have a frustrating problem - the afterburner, in how to work it! The PDF file with the download is - obviously - in French but have managed to figure out the rest through trial and error but not this. The default FS2004 key does not apply, can find nothing in the functional cockpit and putting the throttle through to 100% has no effect (which is what it appears to indicate on the PDF but I could be mistaken). It's really is frustrating as otherwise for a freeware file it is excellent. Any help to a newbie would be appreciated.

Go into the aircraft's folder in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft or wherever you keep your aircraft folder, and then open the Mirage 2000 folder. Inside it you will find the afterburner effect (.fx file) in a zip file, copy it and paste it in the flight simulator effects folder, mine is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Effects.

By the way, like a lot of recent military addons this aircraft's afterburner is gauge controlled. In other words, if you advance the throttle to a certain point and N1 is above a certain level, the afterburner engages automatically. Much neater, this way afterburning actually accounts for extra performance.
Have fun! :)

Hi,

Thanks for that and it appears to have worked, although I'm not quite sure if how intended! The two AB files were already unzipped from the install in their own effects folder under the Aircraft/Mirage folder. I copied them into the FS9s own effects folder and the AB comes up as described. Just suprised I had to do that as all other types (so far) have their own effects under their own files - like the Mirage F1 I downloaded later and the install ran ok with all effects. Just a further query - since I've done that the wingtip vortices have disappeared, and I haven't touched any file there, any thoughts? Thanks again so far.
