When flying the Maule are the flaps supposed to be even with or above the alerons? it just looks kind of odd to have them above.

Even as that is the path of least resistance which equals a clean airflow....  8)

Wait, I just lowered the flaps so that they're even with the alerons, but my airspeed droped from 105KIAS to 93KIAS even though I only climbed 100-200' Something's not right here.

The flaps should be FULLY raised on all planes when the aircraft is trimmed out for cruising even if it looks like they're too high.  The only time the flaps are deployed during normal flight is when you enter certain dogfight arenas, but that is only when you are flying a combat sim.

It seems nobody else in this thread has ever flown a real Maule... The flaps stay all of the way up in normal flight, putting them down level with the ailerons will only slow you down.  

You see, when the flaps are in that peculiar upward position it is called 'negative flaps'.  Negative flaps positions are used to reduce drag and thus increase cruising speed.  Negative flaps are also used in some sailplanes and motorgliders to reduce lift and help you get back on the ground (or again, move a little faster).

Thanks. Its a lot better to cruise at 105kts instead of 90 when your going round the world.
