Has anbody tried the Boeing 2707 SST that was recently posted on page 144 of the 2004 aircraft dowload section? If so what was your experience like?


Mine really sucked and I know its not my system or installation.

If you really want a SST go on the Project Mach 2 page and download their Concorde.

Aside for a pair of important changes one should make inside its aircraft.cfg (the station loads are too many for FS9 to keep mind to without going crazy if one changes a value and the bird drinks a little too much to keep par to the last versions of the Concorde) it's the best SST freeware about.

how do i get the wipers to stop?

I also have it, anyone else have problems with the Virtual Cockpit not texturing? Just blank gray for me for the most part.

Pretty much like Mr.Mugel said. The installation of this bird is a little... strange, as for a reason I can't really fathom beside making the downloads smaller and selective, they made a scattered installation of this bird.

First there's the zip file with the .MOD file (there are 2, one with animated wipers that can't be shut down to my reckoning and one with fixed wipers, they both should contain the .air file and the aircraft.cfg too).

Then there's the common textures zip file, that contains the textures for the virtual cockpit, to copy in the folders of any and every livery you'll download later.

Then there's the zip file with the panel, (though they suggest to go on AVsim and download another panel because this one seems to have lots of bugs due to FS2002 gauges never reworked for FS9)

Then the zip file with the sounds, download this and install it if you don't like the idea of your concorde to sound like the default 737.

Then the files with the repaints, section this recently expanded to contain quite a lot of fictional liveries.

Then, in the very end there's a file with better flight dynamycs.

That you have or not a broadband, you MUST take your time to put together this puzzle if you want to fly this bird. Small price to pay, IMO.

It would be nice they'd make a all-in-one DL for we DSL enabled, though.

One of the probs I find with the PM2 concord is that the overspeed warning comes on at just 330Knotts and cant be stopped. Even with an edit in the .air and aircraft.cfg files.

330 Kias? Strange. Yes, this bird is prone to go in overspeed, but it really isn't that low. At what flight level have you tried to fly faster?

The way I take this bird up is, after having shut off the afterburners after the take-off, is to use the autothrottle to keep the airspeed topped at 400Kias and varying the climb so it remains just under the overspeed up to FL320, there the plane is just a mite under the speed of sound at that airspeed and it's not in overspeed. I then shut off the autothrottle, firewall the manual throttle and fire up the afterburners again in a shallow climb (about 500 feet per minute) until the machmeter is over Mach 1.10, then shut off the afterburners again.

Then continue climbing keeping the throttle open wide (though somehow less than when transitioning over the speed of sound), even at a sharper angle of climb (up to 1500 feet per minute, depending by the flight level) and always without afterburners the bird keeps accelerating, and I keep it away from overspeed the same way I do when it's subsonic, up to and even more fast than its top speed of Mach 2.04. At FL520 I keep Mach 2 with a N1 of 89, seen that the Mach Hold of the autopilot does not work.

It's a fight against the overspeed, the climbing of this bird. Really a something that keeps your attention sharp, if you want ot reach cruise level while supersonic and without having burned too much fuel. This is why I love it.

Don't try to go supersonic at low altitudes. Does not work that way. The normal supersonic transition flight level for the concorde varies between from FL310 ~ FL330, and the supersonic travel happens (or should I say happened) at even higher flight levels.

I asked the question about the wipers in the VC and the simple answer is, you can't! The wipers come with the lame cartoon style afterburner effects which are now obsolete thanks to our own Killer Bunny. To get rid of the wipers, get rid of the update and use the original model file. As for going through Mach1, remember that this is a difficult barrier to break and so is quite acurately modeled in the FSFrance model. You'll need full AB's and a low rate of climb to break it but you can shut the AB's down once you've broken it and M2 will come up quite quickly. As for the panel, the original one in the default FS2000 worked very well and I can't understand why they're still having trouble with this one.

As for the B-2707. It's going to be crap as in reality, it wouldn't physicaly get off the ground. Remember, it was hastily conceived as a rival to the European SST as a 'knee jerk' reaction by the US government not wishing to be left behind. Boeing rightly predicted that a 100 seat AC like Concorde could never make any real money and so went with the huge 300+seat 2707. Because of it's size, the delta wing used in Concorde and the TU144 would need a tremendously fast and long take off so the swing wings where thought to be the answer. However, a hinge mechanism that would be strong enough to hold them on at speeds aproaching Mach 3 would weigh so much that there would be no payload weight left! Plus they couldn't get the engines to run consistantly without exploding but that's another story. They eventualy admitted defeat and continued with their 'slow but cheap' option, the 747. Remember, these where the days before design computers and that some lessons like this where found out the hard way.

Go to 40.000 feet, and don't look to the KIAS number, look at the Mach number instead
At high altitude, the KIAS seems low, but the true speed is high. The mach number is indicated somewhere on the panel, I don't remeber exactely where.

If you want a supersonic experience and a decent plane that is complex but not quite as anal as managing a concorde, go to fs2x.com and download the freeware supersonic biz jet, c they have their.  It's got a "touch" screen all glass panel, 2 concord olympus engines, and supposedly a 6,000 nm range.  Bear in mind, it is a fictictional design.  With a ramp weight of 90,000 lbs., I have no idea how a real flying version of this thing could go 6,000 nm with olympus engines but it is fun to tool around with and the rather blunt looking glass nose section speaks of a low sonic boom signature which is in line with the recent experiments.  But, that's another thread, have fun.
