Please allow a Newbee a quick question :

I'm not after a fanfare or fireworks but having arrived at my destination airport , cleared the runway and killed my engine I kinda expected some sort of 'welcome' message or a debrief - am I missing something ?

Welcome to SimV. Between all of us I'm sure we can answer any other questions you have. No, the flight never ends. Just refuel, open a new flight plan, take off, and go somewhere else.

It's not a video game, so there's no points for finishing something. You can get yelled at by ATC though :D

I wouldn't have bought it if I thought it was a video game - a friendly permission to taxi is fine by me I just expected to be presented with a menu after cutting everything .

If you go to the correct gate or parking place you will be able to make a new flight plan to go to another airport. To make sure you taxi to the correct place use the taxi guide option. and follow it till it dissapears then you will be able to file a new flight plan  8)

In real life, at a towered field, you might get taxi instructions once you declare your intentions... that's it. At an uncontrolled field, nobody'll say anything to you.
FS9 portrays that pretty well... ;D

If you want a "debrief" hit "Esc" then select "View flight Profile" or whatever it says (forget offhand); that will show you your actual course vs. your plan (if you made one), plus a view of your altitude changes throughout. You can even play it as an animation... useful for answering that age-old question: "How'd I do?"

This is where payware addons like FSPassengers enhance the experience. At the end of a flight, you'll get a full debrief, %passenger satisfaction, points added to your record for doing something well (like a nice soft landing) or taken away for being reckless (like slamming into the rwy or rolling onto the grass), how efficient your fuel use was and therefore, how much money you've made the company, etc. And yes, you do actualy get a round of applause if you land successfully after declaring an emergency!

I've heard some critisize FSP as turning a 'serious FSim' into a game. Personaly, I think it makes it more real because it MAKES you think twice about just cutting accross the grass to get to the runway, etc. Well worth getting IMHO but the price is a little steep, costing nearly as much as FS9 itself.

Welcome to the forum, BTW, no better place than here for any other questions you might have. :)

Sounds cool Simon.
Im happy that these kind of things are made as add-ons though and are not "part" of the simulator, so we can opt out of them. I must admit I seriously considered the "Airliner Pilot" addon after reading about it in PCPilot...  ;)
