FPS Target

What should I set the FPS target to?  Now that I have a good graphics card, I get well over 20, so I was wondering if I should leave it at 20 or change it to something higher.

Cap it at around 30. Anything more than about 25 and your eye cant tell the difference anyway.

Apparently, the most the eye can distinquish is about 26 fps. So any higher would be a waste of resorces. Also, bare in mind if you ever multiplay online that the prefered setting is 20 fps max as higher puts a strain on their server or something.

Personaly, i'd love to get that. Not having a card I consider getting into double figures really good, anything really complicated like a POSKY AC is unuseable as they won't run at more than 2 or 3 fps on my system!! :o!

Set it to unlimited and watch your frames for the lowest number to come up. Then set your target to that number or just above/below. That will keep it steady instead of fluctuating. For example, if you sometimes get 50Fps, but it drops down to 20 a lot, then set your target to 20.

I think Ill set it at 28.  Thats around the lowest, and then I can tweek until everything is good.  I need to install the new Catalyst so I can tweek settings.  Ive uped resolution, everything is smoother (a little) and the game runs incredibly well.  I will be getting another 512 ram so thatll help.  But now begins the neverending task of tweaking ::)

All right, I just learned this myself, but to end this debate, click THIS LINK.  It is a very interesting read, and I think if more video game developers read this, FPS wouldn't be so much of an issue anymore. ;)

But since there is no motion blur in FS, I just run it at around 25 FPS. ;)

I have mine capped at around 30. It may jump to the forties at certain angles, but all the flickering is not worth it. If I have lots of big 3D clouds though - bang it's down. I once had 4 or 5 layers of cloud as a test and I didn't get any FPS at all. :o

Im gonna lock at 30.  I dont really have the resources to constantly run unlocked.

Add the following line to your fs9.cfg file and use the "average" you see in the densest areas to establish your maximum framerate:

Ave_Frame_Rate_Display=1

I think you'd have to change the 0 in to a 1 in the line that is already there, I'm not sure though, I'm too lazy to check right now. :)
