ifly747

Did any of you download that newly added complex freeware ifly 747-400 which was uploaded on wedensday?  I did.  Indeed it is very complex.  It's also a frame hog and after about 5 minutes my PC hard crashed.  Anyone else notice any glictches with what does seem to be a very well done model?  I'll be waiting for the sure to come out patches and updates.  Usually I never install a version 1.00 of anything but when I saw the description of this 744 and notcied the download size I thought,  hmmmm???  Anyway, if anyone else has tried it yet, post reactions please.

I'm having problems w/ the sound while still on the ground. I have to turn the sound off until airborn and then its fine. When the plane is loading, I hear a siren. Once in the cockpit, I hear a voice and then it just starts making a scratching noise. I've only toyed w/ it for a couple of minutes but so far it seems like a great model.

The flight model is awesome, but unless you have a good idea how to fly a real 747, you'll have a job making fine adjustments, especially at speeds less than 250 and heights close to the ground. Theres plenty of warning sounds tho, and a good ILS approach can be achieved with practise. You can see why it takes more than 1 pilot to manage this bird.

After a few days of messing with the thing I dumped it, figured I could better use 70MB of space for something I could fly........ :o

Hello all,

This plane has proven to be a real challenge; the hardest part about it is the flight computer. I have been having the hardest time getting it to show my flight plan. That manual is good at telling what is what, but I

...tried the infamous Juliana approach, came in a little fast and high (typical for that field), but got it down on the center line.  I was going WAY too fast, pulled in my flaps and spoilers, released the brakes, killed the reverse thrusters, and tried to abort my landing....cleared the bay and the mountain at the other end by (literally) INCHES.....got the blood pressure up there though!

LOVE the panel, etc. but also found the flight model a bit wierd. Autopilot put it into a flat spin at FL300 once but it never lost altitude!?

Was wondering if the panel and FMC could be transfered to the default 747 model so I can have a 'real' IFR 747 without so many glitches?

Well, I see I'm not the only one having difficulties with this bird.  I finally loaded it and got to the runway but then something came up and I had to abort my session.  I just am loath to take off with anything I can't get consistant 24fps plus and I can with most every other plane I have, even 737 NG. My main problem at this point is low frame rates.  I even took all my sliders all the way left.  Looked like FS98, why, even worse.  Best that did was bounce between 18 and 22 FPS and spikes up to 26 periodically.  I shut everything else on my system down, FSAutostart naturally.  Any other aircraft loaded would have been nailing over 40 FPS after all that.  Now, I did email the lead developer.  He was very nice and immediatly responded with a request to include screenies in my reply which I did.  I think the resources could be spared if they could optimize their code a little better or do a dxt tex version of the plane.  GMAX is way over rated.  I think dxt textures look darn near as good and they spare a lot more vid card strength.  I mean to keep trying to work with this plane.  I complimented them profusely for their efforts and didn't complain, just a little constructive feedback.  I want to see this be all it can be and even more I would love to see PMDG turn green if 4 guys from Asia could do a freeware Qween of the Skies that can equal or best what PMDG charges $50 for.  I suggest that all you email them from the links in the manual.  Compliment them, tell them what you like, tell them where troubles are and support them on the project.  This could be one of the biggest ever freeware add-ons to hit a server.

Oh, by the way.  The FMC works the same as any boeing FMC does.  Those of you with 767PIC, 737NG, PSS, Feelthere etc experience, guess what?  What you learned about FMc's in those other planes will apply to this one.  If you can program one, this one is a peice of cake.  Oh, what other thing I though of.  Did any of you all find any click spots on that panel?  I have been using shift 1-9.  I couldn't find any click spots.  If any of you all did, please tell me where to find them.  Thanks.

I got most of the FMC figured out, as it is similar to the PMDG 737NG series.

Rocket Bird...regarding the ZFW input: I think you're using wrong units. Try metric tons instead. The MTOW for a 747 is around 363 tons. So it's understandable that an entry of 550 wont be acceptable  :)

And what are your planned fuel reserves?

I guess it makes a lot more sense that im using the wrong units with such a huge bird

in the PMDG 744 you can choose which unit you want, either lbs/KGs.
So my take is that you've probably seen a screenshot of a 744 with has the weight expressed in pounds  :)
