just for fun.
I was enroute to heathrow from sydney, stop by india. somewhere along yangon intl, I failed 2 engines in a 747. I quickly typed in 7700 into the transponder to try to declare an emergency (like we all see in nat geo's air crash investigation

) Stupid ATC then told me that my transponder was 'malfunctioning' and please reenter squawk. In the end, never made it to yangoon for emergency.
Any tips for emergencies?

But I wouldn't hope too much about it, was I in your shoes. :-/
PS
A crooked way to
act like you were in a emergency is the following.
You have an emergency.
Close your current IFR flightplan.
Open a new IFR flightplan for the nearest field that can allow you plane to land.
Put AI to zero.
Allow ATC to vector you to ground.
It's bad, I know, but it's as real as it can get, under FS9.

Or, just fly in Vatsim ;)

That's not only a given, but a very suggested thing. Though, you'll agree, Lim asked emergencies related to default ATC, and there's very little there.

FS9 doesn't support emergencies. The most realistic thing i've found is to use FSPassengers (payware). You here the cabin crew telling the passengers to brace for an emergency landing and get the sound of sirens when/if you land safely.

I have to admit, I do think there are several things in FS9 that were missed out that should have been included. There seems to have been a lot of work done on the exterior of the aircraft for example, and the cockpit, but what about the passengers? We just gonna fly empty planes around?
Also, yes, what about emergency landing due to low fuel, considering that they have the option to disable unlimited fuel? Surely there's gonna be a time where the randomness of ATC puts you into a holding pattern for long enough you run out. Maybe there was headwinds generated by the real-weather that slowed you down.
Also, I like the ability to change destination mid flight, and I think the altitude change option is good, but there is no way to seek priority landing clearance, again something that in real-life would be done in the event of an emergency.
Oh well, we can hope for FS10, but I can't help but think they're gonna be focusing more on the outside than the inside.
Hussein.

Try introducing a major fault during an IFR flight. Now, it's no good calling a mayday or Pan Pan as ATC can't respond. But you can cancel your IFR flight plan or request a change in destination. It's hard to maintain heights and headings with an engine out, so opt for VFR and carry out your emergency procedures. Call for nearest suitable field for landing and set up an approach that will give you priority. In practise, you will find that you may have to limit AI traffic, or another way is to use a parallel runway to the R/W in use. Most airports have enough grass either side that will allow a G/A 'plane to land ok. If ATC asks you to "go around" just ignore! In real life situations ATC have to give you priority in emergency.

What we have to remember is that the Flight Simulator series is a comercial product that has to evolve to get more money in. If MS had put all the these things and others mentioned in other threads, in FS9 there would be no FS10 and therefore no more income for them. I don't know the figures but i'd say that a large preportion of FS sales are from people who had the previous FS title but want to upgrade so it must have quite a few enhancements over the previous edition to make us part with more cash.
Personaly, I can see FS10 being the last 'full' release'. The environment and AC side is pretty much as good as it's going to get. They'll probably release updates from time to time after that, maybe for a small charge, to download to keep it up to date. Any more and it would mean hundreds to be spent on our PC's to keep up with it.

Try VOX ATC published by RC Simulations
It is a voice recognition ATC that interacts with you through FS9 you need a headset with mic but it unbelievable You have all the usual clearance, ground, tower, departures, flight service, Approach. with also the ability for you to ask for detours emergencies.
Go to

I'm not going to challenge you on the first part of your post, as it's so true it's not even remotely funny.

Perhaps if they just change their catch phrase "as real as it gets" to "as real as we are willing to make it" it would bring everyone's expectations more in line, lol 8)
