FS9.1 closes when I switch planes

I am sure that this has been brought up, but could not find it. Here is an example of what I am talking about. I landed my Boeing 797 at philly, and wants to switch to my PAD Dash-8. The sim freezes that closes and tell me I should send the error to MS. This happens not with just these two planes, but with a lot of them. I have tried switching to the default cessna then to the new plane, but even this fails sometimes.
Any Ideas?
Chris

I often experience exactly the same problem*....

The error is often reported as:
Weather.dll
Panel.dll
etc...
...or sometimes a General Protection Fault.

It's really annoying while you are in the middle of a Multiplayer fly-out....
...you swop planes and the whole system crashes... :'(...!
Buggar... >:(...!

...don't know what the cure is tho'... ::)...!

*...interestingly, it didn't occur in FS 2000/2002... ;)...!

Same thing happens to me from time to time.  Doesn't seem to be any specific aircraft. ???

This can be caused by something not quite right with the aircraft folder.
I have FOUND the biggest cause for this is in the aircraft.cfg file where the air file is not the same as the actual file (EXAMLPE air file name is b7234.air but the aircraft cfg file will use the name b7324.air) THE FILE NAME HAS TO BE AN EXACT MATCH LETTER FOR LETTER UPPER AND LOWER CASE MUST MATCH AS WELL OR IT WILL NOT WORK.
The other problem I have seen is no air file at all
AIRCRAFT MUST HAVE AN .AIR FILE IN ORDER TO WORK EVEN IF IT IS ONLY AI. 8)

I give it a try, but first which line needs to be correct?:
My aircraft.cfg file says:

[fltsim.0]
title=DHC8-Q202_AWE_ver4.6
sim=PAD_Dhc8

and the air file is: PAD_DHC8.air

My guess is the sim line.

...the funny thing is...
The individual aircraft selection, ....any aircraft, will work without fault at start-up....
...Its only when "changing" aircraft whilst the program is running that causes the problem... :o...!

Cheers all...!

THE FILE NAME HAS TO BE AN EXACT MATCH LETTER FOR LETTER UPPER AND LOWER CASE MUST MATCH AS WELL OR IT WILL NOT WORK.

In my experience the case is not important in CFG file entries. What might affect this is the MDL file having a different file prefix to the AIR file. I don't have the FS9.1 update installed & haven't experienced the problem myself so I can't say if this will affect anything.

If you look in the aircraft folder you should see a .AIR file  for that plane that name should be the same as the sim= line.
As far as the case issue goes I had a plane that would cause fs to crash when I tried to load it and after several hours of trying to figure it out I noticed that the air file had(b747ifdg.air) but the sim= line had(B747ifdg.air) in it. I changed the sim= line to(b747ifdg.air) and it worked.
If this is not the problem than there is some other issue but 9 out of ten it is a problem with the .AIR file either missing or not the same.

I was under the impression that the plane you see in the select aircraft window comes from the .MDL file not from the .AIR file.
After all MDL stands for model does it not?
and the .air file has to deal with how the palne flys or acts as it flys.
But I could be mistaken. :P :-[ :-/

If the AIR file is missing you will get an error message on selecting the aircraft even if it displays on the menu. Delete one & try it.

Not the way I read it but if I misunderstood I apologise.

I have no way of confirming what you actually said as your reply seems to have been deleted. ;)

I am thinking it might even be the graphic drivers

I had a problem much like that which was solved by replacing a missing file. In my case, gaugesound.dll had been deleted from the FS9 main folder. Replacing that file solved my problem. I hope this is of some help.

does any one have a list of possible .dll that could be suspect?

I have three error reports which regularly pop-up...!

Weather.dll
Panel.dll
Mod.dll

All of which will sometimes re-set the program when changing planes in flight... >:(...!

Cheers...!
